On Sunday, April 27 there is a ride starting at Oregon Ridge (Northern Baltimore County) to benefit autism research.  Not sure how many cyclists there are here, but they have 10, 25 and 50 mile options.  This area is a bit hilly and its on the road, but its scenic and for a good cause.  I'm signed up - plan on doing 25.  My husband and son will be riding too - they'll either do the 10 or 25.  Well, just letting you know about it....Tia, there will be lots of men in spandex

I'm not into riding yet but if you have to raise donations for the ride, please let me know.  I have a good friend with two beautiful daughters, 4 & 5.  Both girls are autistic so this cause is near and dear to my heart.  Deb

Yes, I am raising money for the ride - how sweet.  i was going to post that but didn't think it was appropriate since i really don't know you guys.  Anyway, here's the hyperlink to the site. www.roar.kennedykreiger.org If you go to "support a participant" you can put in my name (Ellen Sheridan) and donate.  My former co-wroker and i had a child at the same time - her little boy is autistic.  It breaks my heart sometimes.  My college and post college roomie also has an autistic son.  Its crazy - we never heard about this disease 30 years ago - now we all know someone thats affected by autism!  I can't imagine - 2 children with autism!

I have an autisic 13 year old son.  He is such a joy.  My husband and I talk of what seems like an increase in #'s of autistic children.  I often wonder if it was just diagnosed as something else.  I'm sure there are  number of people who were diagnosed as having mental retardation who are really autistic.  When our son was first diagnosed, they said he had a speech delay and he would catch up.  At that time he was 3.  He was later diagnosed when he was 5.   My husband says we are soooo lucky because of all the things our son can do, and not focus on what he cannot do. Hope the bike ride is a  super success.

I couldn't get to the sight, I'll do a google search - I don't know if I can do 25 miles of hills - just started riding again recently, but I'm going to look into it. Mary

Mary, my husband and 6 year old son will be riding the 10 miler on a TREK tandem.  Have you ever done organized rides like this - they can be a lot of fun!  Maybe we can get together on the NCR trail this summer - I have a mountain bike too for the trail.

I went to the site last night, and I will have to register in person on Sunday. I've only done 1 organized bike ride, and that was many, many years ago in Salisbury (nice & flat). I have a hybred and it really needs a tune up, the chain slips. I've just started riding again small outings (6 miles) but yesterday I decided to go for it  and  road 16 miles in the Glen Arm, Baldwin area, and the hills just about killed me and it took me forever, but it is still my favorite form of excersize.  The trail sounds good, although on the weekends it is packed, unless we go really early.
