I have noticed lately that I like red wine alot. in fact, this past weekend, i drank a bottle each night. that is the most i have drunk all year. and i am thinking about it now. does that mean i am becoming addicted? I've never been a drinker.

I wouldn't think one weekend means addiction. I have found a love for chocolate martinis. I had 4 this weekend. I may not have anymore for a few months. I guess that as long as you are cognizant of your habits this early on you should be able to take control of yourself. Put the bottle away. I bet you won't be yearning for it.

Hey Nicole - I think there are a lot of factors involved in alcohol addiction, and IMHO, one weekend does not an alcoholic make. HOWEVER, from a wls standpoint, you're not doing yourself any favors by drinking empty calories, particularly since you're still so new pre-op.  I didn't drin****il I was about 10 months post-op and boy, did that 'rita hit me like a ton of bricks!!  Also, I noticed that when I drink alcohol, I tend to eat munchies, and eat and drink together - which, as we all know, is a cardinal sin.   Personally, I don't like to be out of control, and I can get drunk on very, very little alcohol now, and the buzz doesn't last long, then I can drink, eat, etc. - a vicious cycle. Just please be careful - you've done really well and don't want to sabotage yourself!!! Tia

Nicole, When I had my surgery 4 years ago, I signed a contract with my doctor on the do's/dont's for that first year.  One of the items was no alcohol for that first year.   I know that folks do it and I managed to make it most of that first year (with the exception of a wine tasting in October) without an alcoholic drink. There is a lot written about the post op effect of alcohol on our livers.   I had a fatty liver pre-op and am very conscious of my alcohol consumption post op.   It doesn't necessarily stop me from drinking, but I am somewhat concerned that I could be causing myself damage. I am not being judgemental because each doctor has his own rules/regulations for his patients, but please give some thought to waiting a while before you test the waters with alcohol. Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

i don't feel judged at all. you make perfect sense. I've decided to hold off on liquor at least for three months. and if i do imbibe to only have one drink. I also have a fatty liver so I want to get my system healthy. do you think one glass of red wine every three months would be ok?

Moderation is the key!  of course moderate is different for different people.   When I started drinking again, I would have a single glass of wine if we went out to dinner.   Now depending on what I am drinking (white zin versus merlot) I find that I may have more than one.   I now have wine in the house and will sometimes drink at home during the week.   I keep reminding myself about the 'empty' calories and that I need to concentrate on losing the pounds I have gained and getting back on track to reach my goals. Hugs, Mo
