I do agree with you here Liz. He did tell me he recommended the RNY, but I could explain exactly why I wanted the DS and he smiled and said "then you will do fine!"

Jennifer,  I am a band patient of Dr. Schweitzer.  He is one of the best and I have sent six patients (friends and family) his way who would echo what positive things I have to say about him and his staff.  I keep asking his NP when I'm going to get a kick back hehehe  In fact she lives near me and I saw her out running and we stopped and chatted.  She told me that the DS patients are doing VERY well and the sugery is great considering it doesn't have the dumping of RNY and it doesn't need the adjustments of the band.  Good luck to you!!!

I had my initial consult with Dr. S in mid-February, and just concluded the outstanding issues (psych eval & nutritional consult) yesterday. I hope to have a surgery date with Dr. S. very soon.  So far, my opinion is that he is a very talented surgeon with impeccible credentials and very positive results.  I know of no one who doesn't appreciate his surgical talents. Good luck to you!

Isn't it exciting we are both getting closer to actual surgery!  Yes i agree, surgical talent is the most important factor in a surgeon, not bedside manner or sense of humor or any of that other junk.  Simply put, medical expertise ans surgical skill are what I expect from a  surgeon.

He did my lap band.  I only saw him once after surgery -- in the hospital, as I had anesthesia complications -- but his CNP Pat does my fills and follow-up and is knowledgeable, caring and skilled with that big needle.   Not seeing him doesn't worry me.  I picked him because of his reputation, not because of his bedside manner (which I think is fine, BTW).  I felt like I was in very good hands.  Even when things went a little quirky in the hospital, I knew that I was being taken care of by the best bariatric surgeon there is and I'd be all right.  I have nothing but nice things to say.  He gets an A+ from me.
