Greek Yogurt-where are you?
I think I was the one who got everyone started on this yummy stuff. I've found it at a couple of Giant's, but the first place I found it was Trader Joe's. Not sure if there's one near you, but on your next visit to Dr. Moen, you'll probably have to pass by the 695 exit to Reisterstown Road (Exit 20), and if you take it north, TJ's is in the Festival at Woodholme about 1/2 mile past the beltway on the right. The brand that I've seen most is Fage (pronounced fa-yuh).
It's not really cheap, not like regular yogurt, but it is much higher in protein. If you leave it plain, you can use it like sour cream, or you can sweeten it with Splenda and such. It's very versatile.
Hope this helps!!

Tia has the answer, but here is some additional info. Trader Joes also has their own brand of greek yogurt. In addition, at least in my area, both Giant and Superfresh sell the Fage brand, including selling it in quart containers. I've tried the 2%, and it's really a lot like sour cream. Has the same consistency. On the suggestion of someone on the main board, I mixed a little Davinci caramel syrup (sf of course) and dipped apple slices in it.

If you can't find it in Trader Joe's, if you have any Persian or middle east/ Mediteranian store close to you, you can ask for strained or thick yogurt. They actaully carry all different kinds of Fat Free or less fat in Persian store close to us in Rockville and believe it not a big tub of it is around 5.99 and carries I think 3 times the regular Greek yogurt.
Bigdog80, there is nothing special about Greek Yogurt or strained yogurt other than the fact that it is strainned, so carries less water and much thicker so that is what makes it so full and delicious.
If you want to make a good dip with it, put a tea spoon of dried Shallet or a very tiny portion of fresh shallet, sprinkle with Dried mint, salt and pepper and Voila, you got yourself a good, healthy Chips dip.
Yumm, it made my mouth water.

So, inquiring minds want to know - where do you work? That's quite the commute from Frederick - but if you work 9-5, at least you're going against the traffic!!!
There's a Giant over on Rossville Boulevard, in the Golden Ring Plaza near Walmart, that sells it, that's where I get it around here.
BTW, the biggest difference in that vs. other yogurt is the high protein content - don't know if it's the process they use to strain it or what, but the 5.3 oz. container I have has 0 fat (I always get the 0% fat), 13 g. of protein and 6 carbs from sugars. I also like it with s/f honey. Now, before you ask, "Where in the world do you buy s/f honey?" LOL! I found that ONLY at Super Walmart. Of course, I don't think it's "real" honey, but you can't taste the difference. You just have to watch the sugar alcohols, like any s/f product.
Have a good Sunday!
