I have a bally's in white marsh with a swimming pool and I'm thinking of joining but to get the 39 dollar a month rate, i have to sign up for three years. that seems pretty long to me. does anyone know about a gym in the baltimore - harford county area that has a swimming pool and isn't astronomical in price? thanks for any help.

Have you tried the YMCA?

Nicole; I go to the MAC ( Maryland Athletic club) and frankly the $39.00 deal at Balys is a lot cheaper then what I am paying.  I love the staff at the MAC  but their monthly fee is pricey to say the least. Three years is a long term contract:  do they offer a "buyout " clause? Exercise is a big part of the WLS journey and I would encourage everyone to join a gym or get some equipment for home. I have never looked into the Y but that might be a good option for you. Darla

Nicole- I go to Bally's at WM! Love the aqua fitness class! I pay $65 a month there so $39 is good. Mine is high because I have  the plan that I can take all 4 of my kids to the daycare there- NO Excuses- ya know!~

I jopined Bally's. My deal was to pay for 2 years and get the third free. I wish I was not so complacent and would use the membership. Maybe this spring and summer I can get my self in gear.

Nicole, I'm in the same boat. Even the YMCA is more expensive than that. But, I'm thinking that 1) 3 years isn't all that long, and 2) it's a national chain, and the membership transfers to other clubs. So, I'm probably going to join shortly. Everything else is so damned expensive. I recall from prior diet attempts that gyms become addicting once you start to succeed at them. So, I think I'll want to work out for the next 3 years. I also believe that if you have a doctors written request, you can take breaks, and possibly break the contract. So, worst case, you sweet talk your doctor for a medical excuse if the contract runs longer than you feel you want to work out. I'm closer to the Towson Ballys, but they don't have a pool. If WhiteMarsh has some good aqua aerobics, perhaps I'll see you there sometimes. I'm just mad at myself that I didn't join when they had $18 down and $18 a month. I thought it was too restrictive at the time, but considering the price, it would have been worth it.

I live closer to Towson, but since I love water aerobics, perhaps we'll see each other at WM.  I walked by the Towson gym today and they had a sign up that said $5 up front and first month free. I will have to go in one day this week and find out more details. But, I can do $39 a month. That's by far the best I've found. The YMCA is $99 to join and $66 a month, and it's out of my way. Bally's is right at a bus stop where 2 buses that go right near my house stop. I can't lose with that.
Hugs!

Nicole, I'm just getting back from a trip so my response is a few days stale.  Have you looked at the Bel Air Athletic Club?  I have no idea what the membership fee is.  Also, a friend of mine is a member at The Arena Club on 22 in Churchville, just down from HCC.  I think they have a pool. I don't need a pool, and it's a bit far for you, but I love my club.  Model A Fitness in Delta, PA.  I'm in Whiteford, and only 5 minutes away.  They charge $70 a month per couple (I think $40 individual) and only have a one year commitment.
