New to OH
Just wanted to say hello to all! I've been coming to the site every day and just now have got the courage to post. I have attended the informational session, turned in all my paper work, and received a call this week and my 1st appointment with the Surgeon is on April 21st. I'm really nervous because I'm afraid he will say that I'm just not qualified for the surgery. I have Aetna, and they do cover the surgery (100%) as long as I meet the requirements. My BMI is right at 40, but if I lose a pound then its at 39.9. In addition, I have Mild Sleep Apenea, PCOS, Borderline Type II Diabetes (have taken metformin), Primary Hyperlipidemia, had problems with my gallbladder (had it removed), severe hydrenitis suppurativa (my doctor said could be greatly reduced if I lost weight), and really bad pain in my knees and hips. I just always have been told that I wouldn't qualify for the surgery so I never went through with seeing a surgeon, but now that I'm going to see the Surgeon, I just pray that everything goes smoothly.
In closing, I ask that you please bare with me as I ask a bunch of questions in the upcoming months.
Welcome to the Maryland Board!! I'm so glad you decided to join us and not lurk!! I'm no doctor, but I do know that you have the co-morbidities that most insurance companies look for it a patient doesn't meet their BMI "requirement." It's not always an easy process, but in the end, it is so worth it. By all means, join us whenever you have any questions or concerns. I love the people on the Maryland Board - we're pretty much drama free and offer advice and support on everything - from wls topics to off-topic topics. All you have to do is ask!! Good luck on your journey, and don't worry about asking too many questions - knowledge is power and we've all been in your shoes!!
Take care,
Teresa (Tia)
