Awesome post, Dave.   I sure hope you do the Baltimore marathon.  I was at the Inner Harbor (headed to the Aquarium) for it last year and didn't realize it was happening.  That made for a traffic and parking nightmare.  We finially made it but I also watched and cheered for a lot of the runners as they passed.  I admire you for doing it but that's not one of my goals.  I'll be completely satisfied doing a 5K. Congratz on your year and double congratz for being 1 lb under goal.  I'll be joining you in about 7 (oops 8) lbs. --Eric

Hey Eric,

Yup...lots of traffic headaches.   As I was running, I heard a lot of unhappy motorists dealing with the police at some intersections...glad I was running and not doing traffic work! You just wait.   :-) 5K's are just the start.    All you want to do is finish.  Then you want to better your time.  Then you realize that you are already running 6 miles a week...so why couldn't you do a 10K?   Heck...a 10K is only 6 miles...double it and you are at a 1/2 Marathon.   Finally, you cross over and lose your ever loving mind and sign up for a marathon. It is almost the reverse of the problem we were dealing with.   :-) Problem is...at 43, my joints are not keeping up with my ego.   In fact, I am taking a day off and scalling back my workouts a bit this week..   I ran more than 20 miles last week and my knees and hips are telling me to slow down.   But, I just find it so amazing to be out there running the distances I do only a year out.    You will have to let me know about any races down there in So. Md.    It would be fun to come down and run a race!   I ran the one in Ocean City last year and it was a treat to do a 5k with no nasty hills in the middle.   Keep up the great work.       Thanks for the kind words.

Dave
Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

There is a 5K on Apr 19th in Leonardtown (starts at 9 am).  I'll look for a link and send it to you.  I would like to run but my wife wants me to walk with her.   Choices choices.  I doubt I can run the entire thing so I probably will walk with her.  Maybe run the last 1/2 mile??? After the Jingle Bells 5K, I had a bit of the running bug you mention.  The problem is that I have since discovered Tae Kwon Do.  I am loving it!  I've gone three evenings per week for the last five weeks and still can't get enough.  A different bug but a bug nonetheless.  I'm not saying that TKD and running are mutually exclusive, I just hard to find enough time in the week for both (and school and a wife and a life, etc.).  For now, I'd rather concentrate on the TKD.  I'm hoping to test for my next belt in April. --Eric
