One Year...and counting...

Well...this past Saturday was one year.    Had all my Dr's appts Tuesday and Wednesday.   So far so good.    I am down 131 lbs since surgery and 151 lbs since the beginning of my pre-op diet.   I am officially 1 pound below goal (current 188 - goal was 189).   My BMI is "normal". Blood work is spot on good.   I am off all meds (blood pressure, anit-depression, and diabeties).    I am training for the Frederick 1/2 marathon in May and the Baltimore full marathon in October.  This has me running about 20 miles a week right now and I will be up to 30 miles a week by mid April.   I am also training for a mini-triathlon (500meter swim, 15mile bike and 5k run) in June.  All of these will be firsts if my knees and hips allow! For the first time in years I am actually looking forward to summer.   I have been cold all winter long and am really looking forward to wearing shorts and tee shirts again.    I want to say thanks to all my friends here at OH.   The information and encouragement that I got from this forum and this group have been invaluable.   I don't think I could have done this without all of you.

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Wow, Congratulations on an amazing year!  I love to hear the success stories. It makes me realize that I can do this.  It is terrific that you are doing the marathons. I hope your hips and knees hold out for ya, and keep us updated. This is the kind of story the news needs to pick up. A GOOD news story. Congrats again.

Hey Dave! Awesome first year.   Best wishes as the journey continues!!!!! Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Dave, What and awesome year you have had.  You are really an inspiration!!  I'm going to have to check out the date for the Frederick 1/2 marathon as I live in Frederick.  Maybe we can get a cheering section together for you. Keep it up!

LOL...you might reconsider when you see how early it is.   I just re-checked the schedule and apparently (I didn't really notice when I signed up) the marathon and 1/2 marathon begin at 6:30am (yes...am).   :-) Since I live down here in Reisterstown, I am going to have to be up around 4 to get there with time to warm up.  Ugh. Oh well.   I may be done and home before my wife and kids even get out of bed!   Enjoy...
