HELP!

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this with your sisters. I also have two sisters and they are my best friends. My advice with the unsupportive sisters would be to limit the discussions regarding this until they are ready. I know that is hard and even with supportive people in my family I try to limit sharing my excitement, obsession, and all around wanting to discuss this all the time with them. The boards are a great outlet and support groups as well.  As overweight people when we find what we belive will be a good answer to our struggle we are so personally elated that we might overlook the concerns others might have. Concerns beyond your safety but as to how it will be when you lose weight, how it might affect your relationships. I hope all of your sisters come around but if not know that you are taking care of your health and the bottom line is that is what is most important.  Best of luck!

Hi Shanecia and welcome to MIP. I have 3 sisters with whom I am very close. We all have problems with being overweight. I am the only one who was overweight enough to qualify for wls. 2 of my sisters were very supportive. One sister did not want to accept the fact that I was doing it. She is having trouble losing weight and I think was sort of in a panic that I would get smaller than her. The reason I feel this way is that many years ago I lost 50 lbs on my own and she kept making remarks that I shouldn't lose anymore weight..etc. Now that I have lost weight she doesn't seem too threatened anymore. All 3 of my sisters want to lose weight and now I get little remarks like "I wish I could get wls and get this weight off like you did". I just think to myself...."SORRY YOU ARE NOT FAT ENOUGH TO HAVE THE SURGERY"....LOL. I am sure that you one sister will eventually come around. Like others have said...try not to discuss it with her too much.

Like Tia stated, you've gotten excellent advice so far and I won't repeat it all.  *lol*  Stay focused and be a little selfish.  This process is about YOU and not them.  (((Big Hugs)))

I had no support from my family at all. I got the ususal comments about eating less or more exercise. They now know I did the right thing. I must say though my brother was supportive. That shocked me. Maybe because his wife has always struggled with her weight and he knows that it isn't that easy for everyone.

You have us to support you.
