Maryland House Bill 614...BEWARE!

Folks, Not to be political here...but for those contemplating this surgery in Maryland...you better pay attention to this bill. Delegate Ali has written up a bill (HB 614) that is up for discussion today in the Ways and Means committee that will add Gastric Bypass Surgery to the list of elective cosmetic surgeries that, if passed, will then be eligible for the 6% Maryland sales tax. This will effectively add 6% to the cost of your surgery.    There is a provision that if it is "medically" necessary then the tax will be waived.   But the specific language does NOT exempt Gastric Bypass Surgery...in fact, it specifically says that it is included.

Time to let your delegates know that they should not be messing with something this critical to those of us that need it.

You can find the bill at this URL:

(See Mo's Post below for the link...Thanks MO!) You can find out who your delegates are and how to contact them at this URL: http://mdelect.net/electedofficials/ Thanks for listening...

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Thanks for the heads up on this.  I just e-mailed both of my delegates:

"Please vote Against HB614.  Taxing medical and dental services, and even the suggestion of a governmental authority having the right to determine their medical necessity, is unconscionable!

Thank you."

It's not how fast you go, but that you're moving in the right direction!
