Drinking cold beverages
ok, who else out there is having a problem with drinking cold beverages???? I had absolutely no problems in the hospital having a big cup filled with ice and cranberry juice and now that i am home, i take a sip of cold juice and my stomach feels like its doing a dance. feels like there's gas bubbles dancing around. I am not one for "warm" drinks. having soup last night was fine but when i went to sip my juice which was room temp, the dancing stomach started. even happens when i have sugar free jello and sugar free apple sauce. not looking forward to what will happen when i have the sugar free ice pops. it was one thing to give up soda, its another to give up cold drinks...just can't do it.
Yes I went through the same thing too. But it is not forever. Your pouch is healing right now and it is very sensitive. I did better with the SF popsicles than drinking the cold fluids. I just had to drink everything at room temp for a while then all of the sudden it was gone and I was back to sipping on my very cold fluids with crushed ice.
Also the acid in juice is hard on the new pouch. I didn't drink juice until like 4 months post op. I drink clear liquids like water, protein drinks and SF walmart brand drinks (like crystal light but better tasting to me.
Just make sure to sip and drink really slowly.
Take care and remember the first month is a bit of a challenge but it is all worth it in the very end.
I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Might not be the "cold" but the juice part. You might try cutting the juice with water (1/2 juice, 1/2 water).
I still have trouble with really acidic juices (like OJ). I quickly got tired of messing with juices and went to Crystal lite. The Peach Tea was my favorite.
One other point. Just because something does not sit well now does not mean that next week it won't be fine. Especially early on, things will change and change quickly. Stuff you could tolerate on Monday may not sit well on Thursday. And something that made you throw up on Monday, may be your favorite thing by next week.
If I want something that has not set well,(and it fits in with my nutritional requirements) then I will try it about once a month. There is only a small list of things that I still can't tolerate.
Good luck and be patient...
Dave
Every morning in
think i found the problem. i was drinking water and crystal light drinks out of the bottle. changed to a cup and wound up taking smaller sips and no problems. wierd....wi****hought about that sooner...doesn't make it easier now when i go out someplace. i take the bottles that the water comes in and now i really have to pay attention to the size of the sip i take. when it comes to juice, they actually gave me cranberry juice in the hospital so i picked some up to have here at home. gives me a little change other then flavored water. i do cut it though with water so its not too strong and it goes down well and stays down. will start with the SF pops later today. will feel good to have something i had before and know its not going to hurt anything.
When I first had my surgery, cold things tasted the BEST to me. I went through a ton of sugar free popsicles and fudgepops. This is especially true for my liquids phase because my surgeon considers them liquids.
BTW, one advantage to fudgepops is that there are some brands (Shur Fine comes to mind) that have 2 grams of protein per pop.
