Hi Snuglbunny, My surgeon is Dr. Babak Moeinolmolki at GBMC.  He's wonderful!  Anyway, I don't have Dr. Singh (obviously) but I did have the same experience as you.  I had researched all of the weight loss methods and originally leaned toward the band.  Then I heard a couple of things said about it that steered me away, only to find out these were things that were happening 10 years ago  -- no longer.  Despite all of that, I went in with my mind made up on the RNY.  Dr. M spent about 30  minutes with me and my husband getting history, etc. then asked me what I wanted.  He recommended against the RNY and for the band.  He said I didn't have enough weight to lose (85 -95 pounds) to risk all of the complications of RNY surgery and a lifetime of malabsorptive issues.  He said I was a wonderful candidate for the band and he thought I'd do very well.  He also said , "Honestly, surgeons make a lot more money doing the RNY than the band, but you just don't need it." So that is directly opposite of what someone else above responded to you. Moral of it all:  You have to have a surgeon who is confident in what he is doing and confident that his recommendation is what is right for YOU -- YOUR BODY, based on your physical exam and all of your history, not just the surgery he likes to do or the amount of money he makes.  I appreciated this even more because I knew going in I was going to be self-pay. I think I've done pretty well: I'm only 12 weeks out and have lost 33 pounds, almost 39% of my excess weight.  I have had absolutely no complications; in fact, I did better than the norm.  I invite you to read about my surgery, etc. on my page.  I am very happy I trusted his knowledge, experience and honesty. Best of luck to you in whatever surgery decision you make, and on the journey forward! Terri

It's not how fast you go, but that you're moving in the right direction!

I had Dr. Singh, I was torn between lap and gastric bypass too but b/c I had to lose about 160lbs I decided on gastric bypass, in my opinion and this is just that MY OPINION if you need to lose more than 100lbs I think gastric bypass is the better way to go but its completely your decision. You really need to think about it b/c it does change your life. Dr. Singh is awesome though, his whole office is, I fought w/ my ins. company for almost a year and his office got me approved. They are all so helpful and nice, email me if you have any questions!! GOOD LUCK :-)

I have Dr. Singh too.  I like him.  He's friendly and is office staff is very nice.  I had my surgery (RnY) on January 8th (exactly two months ago).  My progress has been slower than I expected but I feel funny complaining because I have lost a decent amount of weight.  I'm still learning everything I need to learn, so I'm trying to take it one day at a time.
