OPRAH EMAIL CAMPAIGN

Hi everyone: After looking at the link Cira thoughtfully provided I was so angry that I suggested an email blitz:  well apparently someone in Minnisota felt the same way :  see main board.  Anyway someone went tso far as to post a link to send email to Oprah. http://www2.oprah.com/email/reach/email_reach_fromu.jhtml Maybe if we send enough emails she will do a pro WLS show.   Comeon everyone lets let her know how we feel about her previous show. here is what I sent I am writing in response to your recent show on weight loss surgury.  I was unable to watch the show due to the fact that I was sitting in my doctors office waiting to be seen.  I received my postop 6 month bloodwork results. I was diagnosed with diabetes 3.5 years ago. After WLS  at 6 months my A1C level was 5.9. This is the high end of normal but it is the lowest I have been since being diagnosed.  I have lost 100 Lbs. in six months.  My blood pressure is now under control, I no longer need my CPAP machine; I can now exercise 4-5 a week ( anywhere 1-3 hours per visit); I no longer am on oxygen therapy. Some people say cann't you just lose weight on your own -  sure i could lose 40 Lbs. easily- but three months later I had gained that back plus 10 more. Other people will look at me and say you " took the easy way out"  hmmm let me see:  had to wait six months and go see 10-12 Dr's for various testing  or approval.  Yeah that was real "easy".  The way you praised the one young girl who did it on her own and offered no encouragement to the others who had the courage to go thru a life altering procedure was down right wrong. I urge you to visit the obesityhelp.com website and read for yourself some of the wonderful success stories.  I have only just begun my journey but with the help of the OH members and my family and friends I know I can do this and WILL do this.

Thanks for posting this Darla.  I had the thought last week, but other things popped up and I forgot to followup.  I will be writing my letter this morning.  I hope that many others will write as well.  The ways in which this surgery has resurrected my life are too numerous to count.

I'll be sending mine tomorrow night.  I'll be asking her to give air time to the positive side of WLS, not just the sensationalism about the addictions that can develop.  Her facial expressions say it all sometimes and I wonder if she realizes that.  One big-eyed eye roll or shake of her head can speak volumes.  I know in the show she and Carnie Wilson were trying to get the word out that WLS folks need to have psychological support after surgery, to help avoid any addiction transfer issues, but they did not seem to spend enough time educating the public about the obesity epidemic and the different reasons a person may have surgery.   I know they cannot cover every angle in each show but it sounds like folks that saw the show felt she looked down upon WLS.    I personally wonder whether Oprah wants the surgery herself and is afraid to admit it.
