alcohol
Don't take me wrong, I'm not sitting hear twitching because I haven't had a drink, but it would be nice to be able to drink something besides water if i went out to a bar on the weekends. I know beer and mixed drinks are out, but some liquers on the rocks or mixed with water shouldn't be too bad. I'm single and 28, not really too much to do on weekends besides going to a bar.
Hi Neil!
You're single???? Welcome to the Maryland Board!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hehehe!! Seriously, we're always happy to see new faces.
I'm a RNY patient and since I drink socially, if that, which is what it sounds like you do, I didn't really question my doc about alcohol. However, I did have a s/f margarita at 10 mos. post op, and well, let's just say - I don't remember the next two hours!!! However, we RNY's have much less of a tolerance for alcohol than bandsters. I can take two swallows of a margarita and be completely trashed, but it doesn't last long, which could be dangerous (and expensive!). Alcohol doesn't affect my bandster friends like it does me and since you don't dump, the sugar shouldn't be an issue. The only thing I'd be concerned about is the empty calories - and I do find that I tend to eat AND drink when drinking alcohol - a big WLS no-no!!!
I'd just go ahead and call your doctor or nutrionist, they'll be able to tell you all the particulars.
Hope this helps!!!
Tia
Hi. I have no problems with drinking alcohol, but I'm not a big drinker and if I do drink its one drink for the entire day. As a matter of fact... I have no problem eating or drinking anything. I have lost about 45 pounds so far and my doctor is very happy. It has average out to 1 pound a week. That maybe slow for most people, but its healthy.
