Anyone know how long you have to wait until you can drink alcohol after a lapband surgery?

I would ask your nutritionist and surgeon.  Mine advises not to drink alcohol at all, because of the high carb content, and it's empty calories.  Both of these reasons make it a food that contribues to weight gain.

I spoke to my nutritionist before the surgery about alcohol, i know beer and mixed drinks have a lot of carbs, but something on the rocks like Jack, isn't that bad.  I keep forgetting to ask my doc whether it's ok to drink now or wait for a couple more weeks.  I'm about 3 week post-op.

I would wait a good 3-6 months. Your body needs to finish healing from the surgery.

My surgeon had me sign a form that I would not drink alcohol for a full year from surgery.

This will be the only time that I will be referred to as a loser.......

A year after a lapband surgery?  You're scaring me, haha.  Scotch sounds good to me.  How long after surgery did he tell you to wait?

I have to admit that reading posts like this kinda bothers me. I have the VBG with Sleeve, which has some similarities to the lap band.  My doc advised me never to drink alcohold again.  This is especially true with beer because the air (carbonation) gets trapped under the band and can make you nauseous and even puke.   My band is permanent (no fill port) and set at the smallest size that the Lap Band would ever go.  I have experienced the discomfort and also the puking (twice in 6 mos) that comes with trapped air.  If your band isn't filled all the way can probably get away with it but when it is filled you might want to be very careful. I would highly recommend laying off the alcohol.  Not to be mean or anything but, if you are/were like me, it is drinking a lot of alcohol that helped make you fat to begin with.  Why go back to the old ways? --Eric

Actually Miller lite only has 3.2 carbs per beer. Mixed drinks are always bad because they are typically mixed with juices or sodas which are high in sugar and calories.

Neil, Do you have Dr. Singh's card?  His email address is on it.    I've emailed him before (can't find his card at the moment) but he was totally cool when i emailed him last month. Peace E
