I can't believe what I saw on Oprah today - or maybe I can, (she's very biased against WLS) anyone see it today?    She sure gives WLS a bad name,   WLS saves lives everyday and she needs to respect our choices.

No I didn't know about it. But it is not the first time that i have heard how against she is with the wls.   Lucky her that she has millions of dollars to pay a for a personal cook and trainer and stuff to keep her from gaining weight.   She does need to be open minded tho.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

I missed it but then again maybe I should be glad that I did miss it.  Was her whole show about weight loss surgery? Hugs Kristen

Kristen and Cira - yes the entire show was about WLS, it started out with young patients, and went downhill after that.  Some of the young kids weighed over 300 pounds, had diabetes, sleep apnea and all the usual problems.  One of the doctors told her that for many of these kids, WLS was the last hope for them.  Oprah didn't think the parents should agree to WLS.  Oprah doesn't have a 350 pound kid who can't breathe or walk because of obesity. She's no featherweight herself.

I recorded it but have no****ched it yet. I am with you in the fact she does give it a bad name and if she wasnt so rich to have cooks and personal trainers and she gained alot of weight she would be the first one to run to have this surgery. She always shows about the addiction transfers and it is wrong. It's about time this surgery was praised and I wish she would realize that

I am going to try to find it either on the internet, or on cable to catch a re-run. I knew she was very anti-WLS. I think that's almost hypocritical, considering what she has paid for her yo-yo weight problems, and what she has put her body through. When she wants to pay her personal chef to come to my house for a few years, I'm sure I can lose as much as she has. Oh, but then, I'll gain it all back, and lose it again, and gain most of it back and keep going up and down, and putting my heart through the ringer, so that when I hit 60, I'm going to need quad bypass just from the stress of the up and down weight.   I don't care about her opinion that much, but I am interested in who her guests were, and what everyone said.
Hugs!

This isn’t the first time she had a show about wls. This actually was one of the better one. Did any see Dr. Phil he had a good show last week? His show was great. .

I taped it on my DVR machine and will try to watch tonight.  We are all entitled to our opinion regarding WLS, but it's distrubing that someone with so much power and appeal would continue to broadcast shows with such an obvious bias.  Perhaps we need to mobilize with some type of email blitz to Harpo, Inc and ABC (or whatever channel it is shown in your area).  I would never try to "convert" anyone, but I think that if the OW Show is going to feature the surgery, then it should give a complete and well rounded representation of the patients and their outcomes.

I totally agree! It is shown on CBS here in Baltimore. I read a lot of the info on her website about the show, since I couldn't catch a re-broadcast. It was geared a lot towards younger patients, which in itself shows a biased. I doubt most of us would consent to the surgery for a minor child of ours. But, beyond that, to be very negative about the surgery, really angered me. They even had a discussion with Carnie Wilson (who as far as I know is still a proponant of the surgery). She talked about switching her addiction from food to booze. Well, that doesn't mean that surgery is bad. It means that what we were told by our surgeons is true, that we need post-op support. I'm all for an email blitz!
Hugs!
