B-12: Sublingual vs Injections

I have questions about B-12.  I know it is recommended that we take it regularly, but I don't know why some people take it as an oral lozenge under the tongue and others take it as an injection.    Also, how much is the right amount?  I notice GNC sells 1000 mcg sublingual lozenges, but I have also seen just oral swallowable pill form in higher doses than that, such as 1300.  I have heard that the pills are the least absorbed by the body, though. Please share your thoughts and experiences with B-12, Thanks.

Dr. Von Rueden had me take the shot in the office from the very beginning and then I got a script to take my monthly B-12 shots. I prefer that since it is absorbed better into your body directly.

There are others that take a sublingual 1000mcg daily and are doing great and then there are others that their b-12 is low taking it that way.   So it all depends how your body does with the absorption. I didn't want to take any chances and prefered the shots from day 1.

Best of luck deciding which one you want to do.

I am currently using the Trader Joes sub-lingual, which have no taste and disolve in less than a minute. I am going to get a script for injections at my 3 month checkup, because I'd rather do one less pill and just deal with it monthly. I was told that we don't absorb enough of the type that you swallow directly and that is whey they recommend sub-lingual or injections.
Hugs!

I prefer the injection over the pills. I feel better. It works differently for each person. I would ask what amount you should take at the doctor's office.

I take the shot once a month because I take enought pills. Honestly I would take shots all the time for my other vitamins if I could. I am a lousey pill taker and some days it is really tough to get them all in.

Either sub-lingual or shots are fine.  I chose the shots 'cause I'm lazy and only have to do it once a month. As for swallowing pills - if you have an RNY you can't take them.  Or rather, you could take them but they won't do you any good.  B-12 is absorbed in the part of your intestine that was removed. Good luck, Ted

I take the Bariatric advantage sub-lingual daily.  The b-12 was the only thing that was a little high on my 6 month bloodwork so my PCP told me take it once every other day. DID I MENTION MY SUGAR IS WITHIN THE NORMAL RANGE !!!!!!!!!! can you tell I am excited about that LOL Darla
