insurance question

I read a post on either this board or the DS board about someone paying their surgeon's fee up front and then getting reimbursed by insurance because the doctor was out of network.  Looking at having the DS and just found out that Dr. Schweitzer (baltimore) is out of network.  If anyone has had this problem, please let me know how things went. I have BC/BS (state of Maryland). I need to know how long it might before before the insurance company reimburses me and how the process went in general.  These insurance companies KILL me!!!!! It always something.

I am sorry I have no experience with your insurance. But I wanted to wish you all the best in your journey.   Have you tried calling your insurance to see what their policy is. Maybe they can mail it or fax it to you. Take care and keep us posted.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

A call to your insurance company is the best bet.  They will also be able to tell you what you need to claim the reimbursement.  There is sure to be lots of paperwork involved so you may also want to request that they mail all of that to you now.   I wish you the best!  It will all work out. Hugs, Robin

THank you Cira and Robin, I did call the insurance company and was told they only cover $1800 and not what I thougth was 80% of the surgeon's fee ($7500 - ugh)  I'm not discouraged. Still looking for how to best handle this.  Thanks again, C

My insurance company told me the same thing, but I never paid anything upfront. I still haven't seen a bill. The person who told me that may have been wrong about being out of network, but like I said I haven't paid anything yet. Good luck! Amy

Hi Amy, What insurance do you have??  Did Dr. S tell you to pay before surgery?? I just don't want to get hit with a $6k bill when Im not expecting it and that's my kind of luck. C
