Start a Small Streak

Good Morning Maryland ..   I wanted to stop in to say hi .. and ask how many of us here are setting new goals this year ?  I for one am trying really hard to keep bad carbs out of my life . I have been doing well so far , but as we all know .... things tend to creep back into our lives .  I have made this a small goal .. as If I set large ones .. and get overwhelmed I tend not to do as well .  Below is an article that sorta stuck out to me . I wanted to share it with those that may be wanting to or are sticking to changes and goals .  Just know you can do this . Keeping on track .. and sticking to the basics is first choice in healthy weight control .  Have a great day ! Tink Start a Small Streak Public Streaking Encouraged -- By Mike Kramer, Staff Writer - SPARKS PEOPLE From your first Fast Break to quick and easy exercise ideas, the SparkPeople program relies heavily on the power of consistency. More than anything else, it emphasizes the idea of creating (or breaking) new habits through small actions over time. Consistency can be helpful, but it can also be motivating. When it takes the form of a streak, consistency is an underrated way to get your blood pumping again. Keeping a streak alive, even for a short time, is an instant power boost. It breeds confidence, builds momentum and puts you on the winning side again if you're starting to feel yourself slide. Some people gravitate toward streaks. They get a rush out of seeing how long they can go without drinking soda and a sense of accomplishment from exercising for 60 days in a row. These people do well with daily streaks. Other people are a little more wary of streaks. The idea of doing something every day can be intimidating and stressful to some. That's okay. We've found that these people can still benefit by trying a weekly streak, as in "I will walk 3 times a week every week for 20 weeks." If you're feeling a little unmotivated, or you want to give your program a jumpstart, or if you just want to set a challenge for yourself, choose a small streak today and add it to your program. The more consistent you can be, the more results you'll see! Some pointers on starting your own streak: Set a goal for your streak. A specific number is more clear and often more motivating than leaving it open-ended. If you break your streak, don't get discouraged. Just try to outdo yourself next time. Streaks aren't about perfection. They're about doing better. Remember to reward yourself along the way as you reach streak milestones, and especially when you reach your goal or personal best streak. Streak in public. Just by telling others what your streak is, you create some positive peer pressure to follow through. Plus it gives others the opportunity to help. Start off with something you know you can succeed with, but don't already do regularly. Think of a small habit you'd like to make or break.

Thanks for that Tink!  The goal that I set for myself, starting two weeks ago, was to cut down on the amounts of sugar that I am taking in.  I realized that I do not dump from sugar, and I let myself go a little crazy with the miniature/snack size Kit Kat and Twix bars.  They are now banned from my shopping cart and my home!  I'm 15 days "sober".

Hi Tink, Thanks for posting that!   I have to do the same once the baby is born. Since I am pregnant I crave sugar Aall the time and bad carbs.  I will have to definitely stick to a very strict plan since I got pregnant so early out from surgery and I lost out on the honeymoon phase.   Best of luck with you!

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

YA know Jen .. even if you do have one .. it is not the end of the world . I have 3 Oreos a night . Why .. because I know if I deprive myself .. it could get bad and there may be a time when I eat the whole bag .. so a couple a day .. keeps the entire bag away !  And I can hear how loud they call .. I am there everyday .. but I refuse to go back to the old ways .. and the old- unhealthy me ..  Just keep your water , exercise, protein  and good food choices .. and it will be all GOOD !  Hugs,  Tink

My God Jen, we're twins.  The mini-Twix, mini-Kit Kats and the little bags of peanut M&M's are the DEVIL!  They talk to me too!  I thought I was the only one!
