I was wondering how your experince working with them was..What were the requirements needed for the surgery..etc.(I know you can read the booklet but I find person to person experince is a lot more informative and effective.)

Hello I have BCBS PPO Federal and I am having my surgery with Dr. Singh at St Agnes...they told me that BCBS is one of the easiest insurances to get appoval from.  They no longer require the 6 months of dieting.  Hope this helps

Hey Dominique, I have Maryland Carefirst BC/BS PPO and am looking into RNY.  Have been to the required information seminar and am waiting on the initial consult with the surgeon.  In contacting BC/BS, it is my understanding that I will need 6 months of the supervised weight loss before surgery.  I am with the state and not the federal side.  Wish I would get the call for the initial consult soon so that I can get my 6 months started asap.   Good luck.  C

I have BCBS MN.  I was required to do the six months but, doing the six months allowed me to lose about 60 pounds pre-surgery!  I think that the 6 months is good since it allows to slowly ease into the new life style of living.  When I was approved, it took 7 days from submission to approval.  They even CALLED my surgeon's office to let them know rather than waiting for a letter to reach them.   My surgery is 2/6 and I can't wait! Good luck!!! Deb
