UGH!
Man, there must be something going around as far as virues in the nation. As far as us Post-Op patients, we may have it worse than others......
Sunday evening, I felt tired around 9pm EST and that is a little early for me. I fell asleep and according to my wife, about 20 minutes later I made a sort of gag/vomit sound. I woke myself up and sat up wondering WTF? My wife asked am I ok I I wasn't sure, but I started to feel stomach acid come up my esophagus. I ran to the bathroom and assumed the position, but **I didn't feel sick to my stomach** (Weird) So, the acid continued to come up and I'm kneeling there coughing and gagging because of the burning. The wife got me some ice and I sucked on those and it subsided. After that weird episode, I went back to sleep. THEN, in the middle of the night I awoke feeling very, very cold. I hopped out of bed and immediately fely dizzy as I made my way to the thermostat. I turned that up as much as I could, without making the rest of the house feel like Hell. LOL. I went back to the bed and turned the mattress heat up also. I threw the comforter over me and began to SHIVER and SHAKE uncontrollably. That woke my wife up and she stayed up to make sure I was ok. Almost made her cry. Poor thing. Finally, at 5:15am, when my alarm went off for me to go to work, (Yeah, right) I awoke and I wasn't cold, but I was hot as hell and reached over to turn the alarm off. I was SO sore, from the shaking I guess. My wife took my tempurature and I had a fever of 101.7----SOOOO she called my job and told them I wasn't showing up and I fell asleep again. I woke up around 9am and I had a headache from hell and the fever was gone (I think) from the Tylenol I took. I was in and out of it the whole day and right now, as I type this, I still don't feel 100%. What do u guys think that was? Do you think the stomach acid upchucking was my method of throwing up? Sorry about the novel, but your input is appreciated. Thanks.
Hey Mike - Wow! You sure know how to have fun!! That sounds horrible, and I'm so sorry you experienced that. Fortunately, or unfortunately, since surgery, I've not been sick or thrown up (with the exception of food stuck), so I've never experienced the acid vomit you described, just the foamies, etc. Maybe it was a combination of reflux and a virus? Are you taking any acid reducers? Wish I could help more, but the only thing I can say is drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated, and if it happens again, call the doc!!
Feel better soon!
Tia
