Help...My insulation is gone!

LOL...here is a side effect that was never mentioned in the pre-op literature I read.    I am freezing! Now that my insulation is gone, I can't get warm.   I used to think all those skinny people were just complainers...but geez was I wrong!     My hands are never warm.   I wear at least two shirts and one is usually a turtleneck.   I had to buy a very warm winter coat.   I wear heavy socks.   I need hats that cover my ears.  With this cold snap, I have been putting sweaters over my two shirts and long johns under my pants.   I have gotten a heated mattress pad (a wonderful thing that I thought was complete lunacy about a year ago) and use it every night.    Last year, around this time, I would wear shorts and a tee-shirt around the house.  I rarely needed anything more than a light jacket and I wore short sleeve sport shirts to work throughout the winter.  This year, for the first time since I was a kid, I put clothes away for the winter.   I don't wear my shorts (except a few pairs I save for the gym) and all my short sleeve sport shirts are useless.  I would turn into a popsicle if I wore them right now. Amazing how a year and losing 165 pounds can change your perspective! Hope everyone had a great holiday and has a safe and prosperous new year!

Dave
Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Hey Dave I've seen many of us women post about always being cold post op but never one of the guys!!!   But there's no reason why the same things that make us gals cold wouldn't also affect you too.  For the most part, I'm generally pretty comfy now (of course, I'm one of those women of an age of hot flashes .. so the flashes balance out the cold spots sometimes), but I do find that when I'm not having a flash .. I am really COLD!!!! Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

I CAN RELATE ;  I AM COLD ALL THE TIME. I HAD MY SURGURY JULY 5TH;  THE NEXT WEEK THE TEMP OUTSIDE WAS 100 DEGREES + I WAS SITTING AROUND IN LONG SLEEVED ROBE AND A THROW WRAPPED AROUND ME

What a great thing to have to complain about! ;)   For years I never even owned a winter coat, much less sweaters!  Now I am wearing wool jackets over my blouses and suits at work!  And at home...sweatshirts over turtlenecks to do chores! Go figure!  The sad thing is that BGE would like to draw blood and take my first born, or I would turn the heat up a few degrees!   Congrats on the great loss in 07 Dave, and to all of us here that are in the same, cold boat!

Dude, do NOT feel bad. I am the same way now. I am 3 1/2 months out, down 85 lbs and I freeze very easily now. Also I'm starting to bruise all of a sudden! But, yeah like right at this moment typing this, I am cold. It's crazy. There is no more insulation to protect us from the elements. LOL . Have a great New Year!

This will be the only time that I will be referred to as a loser.......

I too am cold ALL the time.  Before surgery if another nurse or nursing assistant would tell me they were cold I would tell them it was because they weren't working hard enough.  I have had to eat those words!! I have found I alway wear layers, even to bed.  Most of the time I even wear my bathrobe over my pj's when going to bed.  And always thick socks. Will we ever adjust to it all? Kim

Hi Dave welcome to the club!!   I am always freezing and wearing layers. I even wear hats & gloves now when I never did before.   I want to congratulate you on that awesome weight loss 165 pounds is out of this world.   How is grace and the girls doing?  Give them our love.   I missed hearing from you. Ditto on the tea! Does anyone know if our bodies will eventually become accustomed to the cold?  It's not so bad in the summer though.  I don't think I ever really got hot when everyone else was sweltering. Kim

I have no idea but hopefully when our bodies are not losing anymore maybe it will stabilize.   One can only hope right?  LOL
