Gall Bladder "sludge"????

As most of us know before we delve into this adventure, the gall bladder isn't a big fan of rapid weight loss. I guess 124# since January constitutes "rapid weight loss", and if I had any doubt, my gall bladder cleared it up for me Saturday night.  I spent the night in the Sinai ER, thinking back to contractions when my kids were born as being less painful. And I didn't even have stones, I had "sludge"???  The CAT scan and x rays were normal, but the ultrasound showed this thickening stuff, 'sludge' - had never heard of it before. But after 8 hours of dilaudid, and about 5 hours of throwing up, it passed. Just praying it doesn't happen again, or I may have to have it removed.  Has anyone else had this happen?

I think that is probably why Dr Sofronski removed my gall bladder while he was in doing the RNY ... to take a proactive step toward future GB problems.   Of course, I have had the kidney stone issues, so I haven't gotten away scot free!!! Hope you are feeling better. Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Hi, Smilesy, I had my gall bladder removed when I was 24 after 5 years of pain and misdiagnosis. I can't offer you any medical advice, but I just want to let you know I feel for you -- gall bladder problems are so painful! In my case, the pain did not go away, and eventually I was overjoyed at the prospect of having it removed.

Good luck!

Worse than contrations, no thanks.  I hope you feel better soon.  I am really hoping that does not happen to me at all.  Prayers are coming your way! Hugs Kristen

I may have had some years of sludge issues prior to my surgery. I had my gall baldder removed eons ago in my 20's. I had developed pain in my abdomen that was almost constant. I was never given a direct cause for this pain, but the docs kept looking at the area of the gall bladder. I never had pain with my gall bladder issues. I was just extremely sick for years. Everytime it would flare up, I thought I had the flu. Finally, my flu was properly diagnosed.

I had talked to my surgeon about having it removed pre-emptively at the time of the RNY, but she didn't think that was the way to go considering the chances of NOT having gall bladder issues. And I agreed with her. It just so happens, I must be one of the lucky ones! LOL Last night the pain came back - I was uncomfortable all day, but I just thought my abdomen was sore from throwing up so much. But late last night it was back to the point that I took one of the percocets the ER doc wrote me.  I'll be calling the office when they open today for an appt. and to see what's going on.  Thanks for all of the input!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Oh man Caryn! Thats awful! I had my gall bladder out years ago after a long siege with nausea that could not be diagnosed. It worked! Hope it behaves itself so you don't have to consider surgery!! Lisa
