Hey Kristen I really think if the hair loss is going to happen .. it's inevitable .. BUT .. I found that by cutting the major length off my hair (not short short .. but just to my shoulders) that helped take the weight off it.  I made sure I got my vitamins and my protein daily and used a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. The good news is that my hair is fuller and thicker and seems to have more body now than it ever did pre-op!!!   But losing seemingly handfulls at a time was scary there for a while. Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Hi Kristen, I started taking Biotin right after surgery and my hair just kept falling off for the first 6 months.  I was scared I thought I was going to go bald.   But I am happy to report that my hair is growing back and the biotin works for the regrowth not the falling.  So like Mo said keep taking all your vitamins, protwin and get some great shampoo and conditiiner and you will see how nicely it grows back. I take a daily biotin of 1,000 mg. It will get better I promise you.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

I just started to trim my hair. It looked so ragged. I also used some special shampoos for thinning hair. It helped me get over the hump of hair loss.

Kristen we talk about this a lot on the DS board because our surgery is usually longer then the other WLS so more time under anesthesia and we have the most malabsorption of any WLS. Mostly forcing fluids to flush the ketons out of your system right from the start and hiting your protein levels right out of the gate seems to be the only things that help. If you can't do that and most can't then you begin your hair loss in the 3-4 month window and it continues to the 6-8 month window. 98% report that the hair grows back and that a layered shorter hair style helps to disguise this if it becomes noticible. A few-3 or 4 have reported getting wigs to help them through this period. These are individuals that had very, very thin hair to begin with. So hang in there it will get better. Hugs.
