Help!!! I have a problem.
Hi, everyone. I've been on here several times, but now I kneed some advice quick and in a hurry. I am having to wait a longer time than most for my surgery which is ok with me. The first part of Nov I got a date for 1/29/08 which is tentative. But it seems the longer I wait the more I eat.
I have lots of clear liqs in the house for the surgery and sf popsicles, also. I have cleaned closets and drawers out, changed the bedroom aroung and crocheting most evenings late. Still I find myself drawn to the forbidden...food. So far I have gained 10 pounds.
From reading here frequentlly there are many DVR and Dr, Mo's patients. My problems is will the docs do the surgery if you have gained up to 10-20 pds since the last visit before surgery? I am diabetic and on insulin so it is very difficult for me to lose weight and easy to gain.
Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it and thank you so much. I really don't want the surgery to be postponed any longer.

I was never required by DVR to lose weight. I had to be on the diet for 6 months or the eating plan I should say. I also gained.before my date. I gained about 10 lbs overall.
Try to get yourself in check now with portions. Portions control is the big issue. You will be fine, I am sure.

Gloria,
I so understand that one! everynight for 2 weeks before the surgery I had my "last supper" at all my favorite restraunts. When we were at home I was eating all the bad stuff, and I used the excuse that I was getting rid of it so I wouldn't waste the money and so it wouldn't be there after surgery.
My suggestion, and the one thing that stopped me was to look in the mirror and tell yourself you DESERVE this. Tell yourself Why you are doing this. Realize that you will not be saying goodbye to food forever, but you will be changing the ways that you eat. I finally went through my cabinets and took a whole laundry basket to the food closet at our church. Start dealing with the emotional aspect of eating before the surgery. Get your portions in check now. And get rid of that "forbidden food" so it won't tempt you latter.
I also say that I think the 2 weeks before my surgery were very emotional for me.
I wish you all the best.
Dianne
I really appreciated that, Dianne. I don't keep the bad food here What I have been doing is bringing it home on a almost daily basis. But when I do stop the extra eating it takes forever to lose even five pds. Even on the supervise diet and WW I never lost over 5 pds.
I think I should just stop focusing on that and focus on portion control and not eating apfter a certin hour (except for a low cal snack).
Thanks, again

Gloria,
The doctors already cleared you for surgery. TIf you maintain your health (get a clear EKG and bloodwork), it doesn't matter what the weight says.
Monday night, I had a huge brownie right before going to sleep. Unfortunately being diabetic, your body reacts to food differently and the scale tells all. Don't let it worry you.
When you go for your class with Sloan, you'll realize that real food won't be out of your reach forever. It was at that point that I stopped trying to eat my way around Baltimore, lol.
You might want to walk a little more, and get yourself a little more active. It will help you a lot with your prep for surgery, and help to keep the weight gain to a minimum. I have a very active job, and that helped me a lot.
Just keep your chin up my friend. Your time will come. You'd be surprised that one day you will blink, and you'll be in the recovery room trying to remember what the fuss was all about.
Hugs!

Kathy, Congratulations on becoming a loser and welcome home.
I do get relief when I remember I am cleared. And I ask God everyday for strength and health to complete this journey toward wls and then thank Him for coming this far.
When I first wrote this note, my mind was full of clouds from fear. Now after the comments I can see clearer. Thanks to all I am more relaxed and I will try to lose a few or just maintain..
PS: I will try to increase my activity more

Hi Gloria! Relax, you'll be fine. As other's have said, you are approved!! YEAH!
I also went a little nuts and managed to gain before surgery. It wasn't ideal, but things went on as planned. Not to encourage the bad behavoir, but personally for me, I'm happy that I ate what I wanted since I'll never, ever eat like that again. I may get slammed for that statement, but it worked for me.

Hello, thanks, Taya. Everyone has been saying the same thing. It makes me sad to realize so many has gone thru the same thing but brings joy to see all the happy outcomes. I was just so fearful that the wls would be rescheduled and didn't want to face the disappointment by waiting a longer time. I am so ready to do this. I will be more conscious from now on to what I eat and won't feel guity for what was in the past which can cause me to overeat again. I must remember portion control, portion control. portion control. oh, yea, I forgot, and excerise.
What wonderful words of encouragement from all as I continue to prepare for my ultimate journey.

Hi Gloria,
Good to see your post. I went through the same also just like you and everyone else. Like everyone else said good thing you are approved for the surgery. Just remember to not try to gain too much because there is a possibility of having an open RNY instead of a LAP.
We are here for you if you are stressing and need to chat just call on us.
Love ya!
I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
