Hello Members,

On a daily basis we get calls from members in desperate need of surgeons that will accept Medicaid and or Medicare for Bariatric surgery.  It breaks our hearts when we have to say "we don't know of any surgeons in your state we can refer you to".

Can you please help us? If you know of any surgeons in your state that accepts Medicaid and or Medicare, will you list their:

Name

If they accept Medicare and or Medicaid

Phone number

Facility

Address

This list will remain here for our members to access and use.

Thank you so much!!!

Yes I agree with Jen.  I just had my surgery there and am on Medicare.  I can't think of his name but there is a surgeon in Va at Potomac Hospital, also.  Call there and ask for the Bariatrics dr list.

Hello I was on Medicaid when Dr Gary Harrington did my surgery. His then Partner, Dr Fullum also accepted medicaid. Not sure as of today if they both do or not, but worth a try to check it out. Susan

I am a patient of Dr. Averbach.  His office is in Catonsville.  He will be doing my surgery 2/28/08.  He accepts both Medicare and Medicade, being that is the insurance I have.  I origionally found him through the St. Agnes Hospital website.  Very, very, very nice doctor and office staff.  He also has a nutritionist and psycologist there who you can see, though they DO NOT accept the insurance.  You can use any nutritionist or psycologist though. Hope this helps

How long did the process take with Dr. Averbach?
I have Aetna, and I'm considering going with Avebach.
How was your experience with him so far?

Thank You.

I am a patient of Dr. A and have Aetna and am going thru the process right now.  I had my initial consult with him in January, nutritionist early February.  Tuesday I go for my 3rd weigh in and early May is my 4th.  Aetna only requires a 4 month weight loss program.  I expect the surgery end of May or early June.  So far very please with Dr A and his office.  My nutritionist, Nancy Lum is very nice and helpful.  Dr. Averbach answered all of my questions and seems nice.

Good luck making your decision! Feel free to contact me if you want more info!

I also am a patient of Dr. Averbach and would agree with what lucy2e said.  In fact, I think our surgeries would be pretty close in time!:)

did you have to pay any out of pocket expenses?
I called Priority Partners. They Said it was coverede 100% as long as it was deemed medically needed..

My surgery was covered 100% and so are the doctor's visits.  The only thing that I had to pay out of pocket is seeing the nutritionist.  Both the nutritionist and the psyche do not submit things to the insurance co.  At least that is the way it was a year ago.  You pay out of pocket then submit it yourself to the insurance.  I never saw the psyche there though.  I found one on my own that accepted the insurance and submited it themselves.  Arleen is a very nice lady and very helpful as a nutritionist.  Dr. Averbach is very professional and a great doctor.  Hope this helps you.  Good luck
