Good Morning, I have several questions to ask about my surgery. 1>What do i need to take to the hospital.?  How long will I be there 2>How bad is the pain? 3>What do I eat for the first week?

Hi Vanessa!  You are in great hands with Dr. Moein! Not sure if the hospital time is standard, but I think for most people who have lap RNY's, you're in for 3 days (surgery day is #1, release on the 3rd day).  I packed a small suitcase with underwear, socks, clothes to go home in, books and mags, cell phone charger, toiletries like lotion, toothpast, deodarant, chap stick (super dry lips) etc.  A camera to start documenting the journey. Pain depends on the person.  Mine wasn't bad at all, however, the gas on the 3rd day was very uncomfortable. The binder that Sloane will give to you during your preop class is very helpful in terms of eating.  The first week was SF jello, SF popsicles, chicken broth, water, ice chips and crystal lite.  Hope this helps!!

I took very little with me to the hospital. I wore the same clothes home I wore in. I made certain I had something comfortable to wear as I knew I would have ouchies on my belly. I took more than I needed. I was in hospital for 2 days. Surgery one day, recovery the second day, home the third day. It was very easy.  The pain wasn't bad at all. They give you a pain pump right after surgery which will keep you sleeping when you use it. You go to liquid pain medication afterwards. I didn't use much of mine at all. I didn't have the gas pains that others talk about. Walking helps that.  Broth, jello, and other clear liquids make up the first week of diet right away.
