Abnormal EKG? Am I doomed or what?
Hi all,
I am so scared that don't know how to finish this weeekend. I have been through all the tests for pre-op and EKG was my last test. This afternoon I picked up the kids from school/ day care and it was so hectic with rain to get to PCP office. I had to leave my daughter with my son in the waiting room and had to cal him twice on cell to see how my baby daughter is doing, long story short the nurse did EKG and kept telling me to relax, breath normally, relax, breath normal! then she came back and said it is abnormal. I am so freaked out right now, is it possible that it was because of stress level? Can I repeat it and have a different result? I didn't see my own PCP but apparantly she showed it to a Dr. has anyone had an episode like this and what does this mean? It said in the note that needs to be reviewed because of interruption and I might as well mention I am 33.
Any help would be appreciated?
I am sorry that this is happening and causing you more stress. BUT I think that if it were that serious that the DR would have sent you to the hospital. My EKG is abnormal, all the time. It is just MY normal. BUT the first time they didn't know that and so I ended up in the ER. Had to have a stress test and a cat scan of my heart and everything.
I hope that this is cleared up for you quickly.
Best wishes. OH and BTW I too am 33.

There is so much that can interfere with the readings, such as operator error, your own nerves and stresses, if you were wearing jewelry, etc. The reading shows which area of the heart it is looking at, so if there is something outside of the norm, the doc interpreting will know just what to look for in the way of additional tests. If it was something you need to worry about, they wouldn't have sent you home, you'd have gone to the ER. Did they even refer you to a Cardiologist?
When I had mine, the nurse brought the reading to the doc before I got dressed, to make sure he was OK with what he saw. If it truly was abnormal, they will send you to a cardiologist, who will do a repeat EKG before ordering more tests. So, set up the appointment when the kids are in school, and perhaps when someone can watch your baby, so you can concentrate just on yourself. Don't let yourself get worked up expecting something bad either. I know it's easier said than done. But, you should be reassured that they didn't send you to the ER.
Hugs!

They didn't refer me to a cardiologist, I didn't see the doctor himself either, the nurse asked if I had any prior EKG done in that office and i mentioned not. I know that I have to do another one and also I already knew yesterday was so hectic and chaotic that I was this close to cancel the appointment but since we have a hurry to submit everytihng to insurance (my insurance is going to change after new year and the new insurance excludes the WLS!!!) that is why I kept the appointment, it even showed from my BP since it is usually between 100 and 110, this time it was 137 high which is too high for me. Thank you for all the reassurance Kathy. hope you hae a wonderful surgery.

All, Thank you for your encouragements and prayers. My PCP just called and said he wouldn't lose any sleep over my EKG. he mentioned that there are about %20 of EKGs that turn out to be abnormal for one reason or another. I feel much better now, I am back on track to send all the papares to surgeon's office. I knwo I will ask you all later to pray for me to approve. This journey is sure a bumpy ride, however i still want to take it as much as taking my next breath!
Thanks All
Ellie
