Catoctin Hiking/Camping Post #3

All, I think the hiking trip is going to be AWESOME and I still can't believe the great response!! I've been talking with a ranger and have some additional info.  The ranger suggests that we all meet at the visitor center (VC).  According to the map on the web site, there is only one VC so there shouldn't be any confusion.  The VC opens at 8:30 but I don't see why we still can't meet at 8 am. The ranger also said that they do not take reservations for the camp sites as they are a first come, first serve deal.  One camp site ($20/night  /site) can hold 5 people.  I'm not exactly sure how many are coming but it sounds like we won't need too many sites.  Also, they do not anticipate filling the campground as 17 Nov 07 will be the last weekend camping is allowed for the season. Assuming it isn't raining, I plan to camp!!! I would be more than happy to provide hot dogs, burgers, buns, condiments and anything else I need to.  What I do not have is a small, portable grill.  Can I get a volunteer?  Does anybody even sell charcoal this time of year?  Maybe gas is better??? I'm not sure what else to say unless anybody wants me to coordinate food. Somebody mentioned not using their tent in years.  unfortunately, I'm in the same category so you can bet I'll be pulling mine out this weekend to check it.  I'm guessing it is going to get cold that night so PLEASE be prepared. --Eric

Hi Traci!! I am doing pretty good just tired.  My kids were very sick for over a week and now it is my turn.  I hope I don't get too sick because I definitely can not afford to. How are you and the family doing?  Thanks for checking up on me. Hugs,

Good idea about getting the tent out and checking it. I do have a portable grill. Will check on it's condition and get back with you. Also have Charcoal. Will bring coffee!!! Rain will put a halt to my plans also. If I don't camp, will be leaving bright and early Saturday AM. Figure about 5AM. This will be fun. TraciL

You sound like you want to camp Friday night.  There's nothing wrong with that but I was thinking more of Saturday night after the hiking.

This all sounds like so much fun and so exciting. However, due to my family situation, I doubt I will be able to participate. I'll miss you!

I'm sorry to hear that.  We'll miss you.   You realize, of course, that we'll have to talk about you behind your back.

Boring conversation. You may want to find something more exciting to talk about than me. :)

I've got to do the math to figure out what time I need to leave Annapolis to be there by 8 a.m. ... ARGH!!!!   Haven't looked to see if there is a campground where the MH would fit anywhere nearby, and Catoctin doesn't seem to be RV friendly .. only tent/shelter friendly. I'm looking forward to the 17th.  Hope the weather cooperates with us. Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!
