Insurance Question
Hey everyone,
I have been waiting for about a month now since my papers were sent to my insurance. A week and a half ago I called my DR office and asked for them to refax my papers to the insurance. After two days of searching for my records someone found them and I was told my papers were refaxed on last Monday. Ok, so I called the insurance today and they still do not have any record of my paperwork. I spoke to someone that asked if I wanted to her go ahead and start a claim. She took my name, surgeons name and the operation that I wanted, by the way, she had not heard of the DS. That makes me worry!
Anyway, has anyone had experience with this. I am concerned, I do not know where my papers are going. Any advice would be helpful. The wait is killing me! I want to already have my surgery scheduled!

Also, how do I add a picture to my shaded in face. All of my pics are too large.
I just went though this. In doing further research with a different department at my insurance company, I found out that it was mostly the Nurse handling my file at Aetna who was responsible for the delay. Not that the doctors office did the most timely follow-up, but they had most definitely faxed and refaxed everything she asked for. The Nurse was overworked, and kept pending my claim, and not updating her notes.
My employer has a dedicated customer service line for my particular insurance plan. I looked on our company intranet site, and found lots of good benefits information. I called that number, and she was able to see all of the Nurse's notes, and saw that she wasn't updating when she received information. So, when I called the usual number to get updates on my claim progress, they kept telling me she didn't have all of the info. I escalated my claim, and they contacted the Nurses boss, and my authorization came through the following day.
I would verify with the responsible person at your docs office that he/she has fax confirmations for everything the insurance company requires. See if they have any notes about when they may have spoken with a Nurse handling your file at the insurance company. Then, call your insurance company and find out what the hold-up might be. I offered to go to the office and get copies and refax them myself. But, then all of a sudden, the Nurse admitted that she hadn't checked her fax machine in a couple of days (sheesh, what about patients with life threatening cases pending).
You absolutely have my empathy. The waiting time was very hard on me emotionally. The first 2 weeks I thought was just the normal. But, then panic set in. I just started thinking about what if they weren't going to approve me. I was reassured by the doctor and his insurance coordinator that very few requests get denied, and that helped. Remember that your doctors office verified your coverage already, so they would have had you doing what was necessary for approval. I needed to remind myself of that often.
