My sister is much worse.  Nausea and heartburn is so bad she can not get any fluid in.  Dr. Li talked to her today and told her the lapBand may need to come out.  OMG!  She is so upset and wish she could find something that will work. Any Suggestions?????????????????

Is your sister not a candidate for RNY ?   I know a lot of people now feel that the lap band is less drastic than RNY, but the idea of having something 'foreign' inside me always turned me off to the lap band. I hope she finds some relief soon. Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Kristen, I am sorry to read that your sister is not doing good after getting the lapband.  I wonder if her body is just rejecting the band.   I want to wish her all the best. I hope they can help her quickly. hugs,

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

There's a very small number of people who have this problem, Kristen.  I've read about other people having it, too.  If she doesn't want the malabsorption, I wonder if she could revise to a sleeve.  Dr. Schweitzer at Bayview does those kinds of revisions. I'm sorry she is suffering so.  The first four or five days was very rocky for me, and I was hoping that she'd be able to get past it.

Edie Her insurance would not cover for the sleeve cause it is still too new.  She has been so hell bent on the band that I have never said anything to her about the RNY.  At this point she is so over all of this that I am not sure she wants anything.  She lost 18 lbs waiting for surgery and I am sure she thinks she can do this on her own now.  This is very sad.  She has to call Dr. Li by 10am this morning, I am not sure what to do at this point.

Wow Kristin, I'm so sorry she is having to go through this. I can imagine that after this hell, she would be gun shy on any further surgical procedures. I hope they can determine the cause before doing anything drastic. If she decides to have it removed, and she is too traumatized to try RNY (and who could blame her after the week she has had), she should talk to her PCP and Dr. Li, or was it originally Dr. G? Anyhow, my PCP was awaiting a new weight loss drug that is supposed to be out this year, or early next (he never gave me the name).  It is supposed to not only suppress appetite, but aid in the absorbtion of either fat or carbs, or perhaps both. I chose not to wait for it.  I am not sure it was going to be enough, since successfully low carbing (losing 65 pounds) wasn't enough to have me finally keep my weight off. But, if she is going to go the route of doing this on her own for now, at least there would be one tool she could try.
Hugs!

I am sorry she is having so much trouble. I was going to recommend the sleeve like Edie.

Better today some what.  Dr. Li is waiting till tomorrow to see if Aimee can get in more fluid.  Today she has gotten in about .9oz of fluid.  She is still not feeling that great but it comes in waves.  She seems to have a little more hope today.  I just keep praying. Hugs Kristen Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. Back to work tomorrow for me!

I am glad she's doing better.  I think the first five or six days are worse than most of us are willing to admit because of the swelling.  I seemed to turn a corner after day 5.  To be perfectly honest, I was able to feel the thing in there at first and would have been in a world of hurt without pepcid.   Maybe as the inflammation goes down she'll get to feeling better.

I'm glad to hear your sis is doing better.  Maybe she just has terrible swelling that is affecting her.  Time will tell.  Good luck to her and when she is up to it tell her she can email me here or privately at [email protected] if she would like.

Revised to VSG (6/11/09) weighing 253...
