Hi Diane I had RNY on 9/10/07 and my Nut has me eating 3oz of protein and then anything extra is just extra.  Like Veggies but I have to do the protein first.  I am also walking every night and plan to start swimming next week. Hope I could help, Hugs Kristen There is another someone who had surgery on 9/10/07, ummmmm

Who ever could you be talking about Kristen? Hi Diane -  As you may know from Kristen's subtle hint, I also had RNY on 9/10.  First off - don't be disappointed about losing over 1/2 a pound a day! When was the last time you did that? You can't compare your loss to anyone else's.  We are all different.  If you look back through the posts you'll see some losing fast, some slower, there isn't any "typical" progress, just lots and lots of progress. As for how much to be eating - eat as much protein as you can.  You should be getting all your other vitamins and minerals from supplements at this point.  There is no way that we can get all our nutrients from food at this point.   We need to start with protein foods, and eat as much as you can but you may or may not be able to get in 3 oz at this point.  Just do your best and pay attention to your body about when to stop -DON"T over do it.  The pouch will soften and swelling will go down over time and in several months you should be able to eat a sort of normal meal - like 3 oz of chicken and a spoon full of veggies.  They say it gets a little easier. Until then, make sure you are getting enough protein.  Our Nut started us off at 60-70 grams per day and then at 5 weeks bumped me up to 100-110 per day.  Not gonna happen without supplements. If you are truly stalled, then you may actually need to up your calorie intake.  I know it sounds backwards, but if you don't get enough calories everyday, your body will assume that you are going through some sort of famine and will shut down and go into starvation mode.  It will hold onto every calorie it can.  If you give it a little more food your body calms down and starts burning calories again.  Try to eat every 4 hours - even if you don't feel hunger.  Also, make sure you try to start some sort of exercise or your body will burn up lean muscle as well as fat and you don't want that. Sorry to ramble so long.  Good luck, don't worry about a small stall.  It's only been 6 weeks post-op and some long timers don't even consider it a stall unless you haven't lost any  weight for 3 months. Keep us posted!   (By the way, I am not a doctor or a nutrtitionist - nor do I play one one TV and I didn't spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express - so when in doubt, call your nutritionist or surgeon!)

Ted made excellent points and possibly the most important being the last thing he said .. when in doubt contact your doctor or nutritionist.    If you are folliwng the instructions that were given to you, you can't help but lose weight.   Be sure you are getting enough protein (this is important for your over all healing and health), getting your fluids, and taking your supplements. Exercise of some sort is important.    I am going to be 4 years out in March.   I NEVER really did any formal excercise or even walked much.   As a result, I didn't make the most of my 'tool' when it would do the most good for me and I'm still 30 to 40 pounds from goal and may never see it.   My biggest regret is waiting until I was almost 3 years out to recognize how important exercise was even though my doctor impressed that on me from the beginning. Best wishes with your journey! Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Stalls happen. Your body adjusts to the weight you have lost. Are you measuring yourself? You may have lost inches recently which is as important as the pounds. You have great advice from everyone previous to me.  Try to find a time you can take small walks. I get up from my desk several times a day and take short little walks. it helps with the gas issues as well as getting some exercise in each day.  Keep the faith. You are on the losing side!!!
