I am 2 1/2 months post op RNY and not only GAINED 3 pounds, I haven't LOST anything in 3 WEEKS!!!!!  I am getting so depressed at this point.  I eat a 1 oz mozzerella cheese stick for breakfast, Safeway Organic tea (120 calories) for lunch, and usually a Dan Active cottage cheese with pineapple for dinner, and before you ask, no I haven't been doing the protein drinks.  I am also drinking water throughout the day.  Does anyone have any suggestions to get me moving in the right direction again????  Thank you-

Please please please read my blog!  There have been so many posts like this on here, don't get discouraged!!   I plateaued early on and felt that surely I'd be the only human on this earth that had this surgery and gained weight.  Well, low and behold, I am 7 months post op and with the 19 I lost in the 2 months pre-op, I am down 114#!!!!!   We hit slow downs in our losses so our bodies can catch up with the drastic changes.  Some times it takes a change in what we are doing to beat the plateau.   You may consider a way to get more protein, or adding exercise to what you are already doing to get things moving again. But don't get depressed! Plateaus are normal, and it will pass!

Thank you so much-I hope it is only temporary-I am getting so frustrated at myself!  I wil try to switch things around and see what happens.

Did you have nutritional counseling pre-op and post-op and are you following your doctor's food plan for you? It really looks like you are not eating nearly enough and your body could very well be in starvation mode.     Take a look at your food plan and make sure you are getting the appropriate nutrients and reconsider the protein drinks, Protein is a very important part of your dietary plan. Best wishes, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Thank you for replying Mo-No, I didn't have nutritional counseling.  My mind can't grasp how people can be anorexic and continue to lose weight, yet our bodies will go into 'starvation' mode and lose nothing!  It is so frustrating!

You may want to consider finding a good nutritionist who works with Bariatric patients.  With no previous counciling it could be dangerous in the long run.  Our bodies simply can't absorb nutrients from food the way we used to.  If you don't get enough protein, the weight you do lose is liable to be muscle rather than fat. As far as the plateau, it really sounds like you're not eating enough.  I know it sound counter intuitive, but you probably need to eat more in order to lose weight.  You should check with your surgeon and see if they can recommend a good dietician. Good luck, Ted

Thank you Ted-You are right-I a so scared to eat more-I think I will gain back the weight I've lost so far which I feel is not as much as I should have lost by now anyway-I hope the scale starts moving downward again soon......

Thanks Lisa.   I have to agree with the others though.   I am amazed that you didn't have nutritional counseling before, and during this process.  Ted makes a great point, I would have been lost many times without my nutritionist to call and/or email!
