Ok I admit:  I am SCARED I went for a gyn appt ( first in two years) and she ordered a sonagram. Just got a call that I have endometriosis and an ovarian cyst. Have an appt next week to talk about surgical options. She will remove the cyst ( via the belly button)  I have researched and found out that the endometriosis  can be treated via birth control pills.   I guess what I am not sure about is weather this is too soon after WLS to have another surgury?  Has anyone else been thru this ? I am going to call DVR and ask him but knowing  his office it will be impossible to talk with him.  I guess I will shoot for talking with Kathy.

Been there done that! I won't bore others with the details but you can read my profile...here's the short of it. I was diagnosed with endometriosis back in 1989. I have done YEARS of treatment (birth control pills, Lupron, surgical intervention, and so on). I will tell you that NO doctor can diagnose endometriosis by a sonogram...not possible...a definitive diagnosis requires a laproscorpic procedure to be able to SEE the endometrial tissue within the pelvic cavity, bowels, bladder, ect. The good thing about that is this...they can usually try to laser as much of the tissue in the pelvic cavity at the same time...and that will usually improve symptoms...at least for a little while. As far as the ovarian cyst, I have had MANY of them too. What size is the cyst? Mine usually resolve on their own...but they've never been bigger than a golf ball in size. BUT they sure do hurt something awful. I also have adenomyosis, some say this a form of endometriosis of the uterus. It acts like cancer and attacks the uterine cavity. NO FUN. I'm not sure where you stand in the way of wanting to have children...but that plays a key role in how you and your doctor should go about treatment. If you want more information, I would be more than willing to share my experiences with you. Just send me a PM. Don't be scared...there are several treatment options available to you...and you're not alone! Tanya

Darla, I'm sorry that you are going through this! What she will, and should do will depend a lot on the size and type of cyst. In many cases, birth control shrinks the cysts. I'm surprised that she doesn't want to try that first, before proceeding with surgery. I have polycystic ovaries. My last ultrasound, my ovaries looked pretty bad. Are you having pain from the cyst? If not, you might want to discuss non-surgical treatment for a few months to see if you can get this to shrink. You can PM me if you need to talk. Hang in there!
Hugs!
Kathy
