I do not usually hate things, no that is not true I hate protein shakes.  BUT, I went to the Den to get on my computer at my desk and there is Chocolate everywhere.  Little Fingers!  There is Chocolate all over my house cause of DH and my daughter.  I let them go to Target together and this is what I get.  So I walk in the Den to get hit in the face with the smell of Butterfingers and Butter Cups. How to deal with Halloween this year and years to come?

Chocolate-flavored protein shakes, sugar free pudding and cocoa ....  Seriously, in future years, would some sugar-free candy (which is pretty good, BTW) make you dump?  I'm dreading Hallowe'en, too.

I really do not think it is the chocolate, it is everything in the chocolate that I want.  I have to wait till I start eatting and I hope that is this week.  Then maybe I can think about trying some SF candy. Hugs Kristen

Boy oh boy that is a tough one. Do you think you could purchase some sugar free chocolate divici syrup or flavoring and pour it into what you can have? Are you able to have milk yet? Or coffee. Have you had one of the things referred to as a "why bother" at starbucks or another coffee place. It is a drink with decaf coffee, skim milk and a sugar free flavoring served hot or cold. I love them. Since surgery I have somehow developed an aversion to chocolate of all things. That along with my new lactose intolerance and the fun I had yesterday after eating about an ounce or 2 of nuts. If I ever have to do a bowel prep I can eat nuts and wa**** down with a glass of milk.

Jo, while your humorous approach makes me laugh, I'm very sorry you are having trouble with milk and nuts. Especially since it's a new thing since surgery. Hopefully, your body will learn to like them again. I LOVE almonds and milk, so I'm hoping I don't follow in your footsteps with that aversion.
Hugs!

I honestly have not been tempted by sweets since surgery - I waited way too long and went through way to much to mess this up now. So I have found the substitutes! Try the peanutbutter protein balls or the coolwhip/choc/peanutbutter fluff!   There are ways around it. My docs talked enough about dumping, and I have experienced it once after a fried buffalo wing, that I don't care to push the envelope for chocolate. Besides, I ate lifetimes worth of chocolate in the 38 years leading up to this surgery...

So I'm not the only one that looks at sweets and thinks "yuck" now.  Dr. S. was a little worried about the appropriateness of a lap band for me because I admitted to a sweet tooth in the initial consult and I'm diabetic (or for a short time, I am ).  But, I had a history of being able to pig out on anything from pasta salad to porterhouse steak, so I felt the lap band was my best choice.  Though, I secretly wondered before the surgery if Dr. S. might have been right.  After all, I could pig out on ice cream or cheesecake, too. I have zero desire for anything sweet.  Since our choices are pretty limited in the liquid phase, I have eaten Jello and sherbert since the surgery, but I have only really craved salty things.  Chicken broth is now the nectar of the gods.  Actual chicken would be divine and I found myself actually sniffling over not being able to have a bite of Kevin's salad last night.  And I never want to see Dannon light yogurt cherry vanilla flavor again after eating it for 3 meals in the hospital. It's weird, but I hope it stays this way.

I rarely desire any sweets. Once in a while I may yearn for a taste of something. A taste is all I need instead of the entire quart of ice cream.

Jo I can't wait to try "Why Bother", my sister loved that and still gets it after 3 years.  I am trying little milk not much.  Some with my shakes and that is it.  I hope to start eating solids this week but not pushing cause of all my throat issues.  I can really do with out the sweet, just the family keeps in my face and it smells good but no dumping in my world! NO WAY! Hugs Kristen

I stopped participating in Halloween when I was diagnosed as a diabetic. I refuse to purchase candy to give to kids. Since anything else will just be thrown away, I don't buy it either. I keep my lights off and wait out the night. I'd be hard pressed with a young one in the house, however. You may need to make a rule like all candy is eaten before you come in the door.
