Post-op question
How many of you started slowing trying solid foods before your 4 week purred food period was over? I ask this because I must confess I have tried eating some solid foods. Just things like chicken and ground beef. I took small bites and chewed very well, but I just could not take the mushy stuff anymore.
Hopefully I am not the only one to try this. I tolerated everything very well. I guess I just wanted to get it off my chest and confess.
Please tell me that I am not the only one to do this.
As long as the food doesn't get stuck & you tolerate it well, you should be fine. Just remember that this phase allows your pouch and everything else to heal completely and your calorie intake is VERY low if you avoid solid foods. I promise that the time will pass by and before you know it you'll be a month out. We have probably all done what you have. I was instructed to do the purred foods for only 2-3 weeks. By the second week I began eating soft foods - eggs/egg salad, cheese, cottage cheese, very moist and mushy chicken with low-fat mayo. It's a tough phase but you can do it!!!
There is a great website to get some really good hot chocolate high protein drinks from, as well as an entire slew of high protein foods. I love the hot chocolate because I am not a coffee drinker, never have been. If you can go visit them you will get a sample of practically everything they sell. They like you to try it before you buy it because these things can be pricey and will go to waste if you don't like them. I like their vegitarian chili and their taco meat stuff. They have the best fat-free honey dijon salad dressing too. I have tried a few of their bars but I prefer other stuff so I don't usually buy those.
www.MyDietShopz.com located in Woodbridge, VA! They are only open weekdays but it would be so worth the trip. I am going to try and go on the 19th when I am already in DC for a dr. appt.

272/150 down 122 lbs!!! WOW!!
Hi Gina,
At the puree stage I really was not hungry much and I had to force myself to eat. But one day I steamed 2 shrimps and put them in the bullet I didn't puree it to mush just very lightly and it was heaven.
Just make sure that when you puree your foods just don't make it mushy. I really enjyed having shrimp like that for a week. lol
Just becareful not to get your food stuck or eat too fast it is an awful feeling. There were times I begged to just die. lol I know a bit melodramatic. lol
I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.
Those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind.

Ya know, the more I read, the more I think I am a wimp.
After listening to my doctors I was way to scared to do anything other than what they told me for fear of messing something up. I didn't puree anything at all, I stayed on liquids, for the weeks after the 1st surgery, and tacked on about 4 or 5 more weeks after my 2nd surgery of nothing but liquid. Now I did include in that fat free cream of chicken soup with protein powder, but I took the chunks of chicken out. I also made SF pudding with skim milk and protein powder during that stage. I think it was about 2 days before my 4 week appt after my second surgery that I broke down and had a tablespoon of cottage cheese because I needed to chew something. But based on what everyone is saying, I'd say if you are very careful, add one new thing at a time, chew chew chew, and see how it does you, go for it!

I'd bet my pay check nearly everyone starting real food sooner than doctor said to. I was having nightmares about jello and popcicles. I started on regular food about 2 weeks early and chewing well. I didn't have to many episodes. But, if you start to have problems definitely go back to doing what you're supposed to.
