Hello!!

I am new to the MD board, and wanted to know if anyone can share their experiences with Dr. Khuldeep Singh with me.  I am interested in using him as a surgeon, and besides, I live right down the street from St.Agnes.  I attended a seminar that he was speaking at, and I do remember a lot of humor!!  Any suggestions on questions I should ask him?  I was also looking into Dr. Sweitzer (sp?) at JHH as well so if anyone can share their exp with him as well, that would be great!!!!

Thanks!!

Hi Mikkola and welcome to the Maryland Board. We are happy you are here and it is always so good to do research. Please ask any questions you might have. I had surgery on 8/14/07 with Dr. Schweitzer. He is excellent and is highly skilled and very well thought of. I also had wonderful attention from his office and terrific care from the everyone at Bayview where he practices. He has his own web page at www.smallscar.com. He also does all the types of bariatric surgery so depending on what you decide on, he can do all the different ones. Best of luck and feel free to access my profile. It has my experience at Bayview documented pretty extensively. Jo

Hi Mikkola! Welcome to the Maryland forum. I had Dr. von Reudin as my surgeon at GBMC, but I have heard and read good things about Dr. Singh. I'm a bit jaded in my opinion as I think DVR rules!!! :) Where are you in Arbutus? I am also just down the road there in Irvington. We are almost neighbors. Maybe we can meet up someday at the Dunkin Donuts just at the corner there. I stop in there for an iced latte quite often.  I didn't know about any other surgeon until I had already commited to have mine at GBMC. If I had known about St. Agnes, I may have chosen to go there. I think my choice was right for me.

Hi Aime B.!!  I actually live right off of Wilkens and Maiden Choice, but I know exactly where that Dunkin Donuts is!  It would be nice to meet there one day!  I think one of the hard parts is choosing a surgeon, you've heard good things about this one, bad things about that one, etc.  I've heard good things about Dr. von Reudin.  St. Agnes is soo convenient for me, that I feel like that alone should make me wanna stick it out with Dr. Singh.  But yet, I still wanna do my research, ya know?!!  Congrats on the weight loss, BTW.  Let's keep in touch!

Welcome to the MD Board Mikkola!!! I am not a Dr. Singh patient but I have heard good things about him.   I want to wish you all the best in your journey.

Hi there!  Best of luck as you prepare to choose a surgeon.  I have heard great things about Dr. Singh also.  I have been thoroughly pleased with my surgeon, Dr. Moein and the GBMC group.  I don't live near you, but I do work on the Bayview campus, so if you're ever around, let me know and maybe we can meet.  Take care!

Hi Mikkola, I have met Dr. Singh at the support group/reunion at St. Agnes.  I had my surgery with Dr. Averbach (Dr. Singh's partner) in July 2005.  I recommend both of them, and the St. Agnes program, very highly.  If I am not mistaken, Dr. Singh is the head of laproscopic surgery at St. Agnes.  The man knows his stuff.   The staff at the office is competent and helpful.  The Bariatric Surgery program at St. Agnes earned a "Center of Excellence" certification in fall of 2005 (I believe), right after my surgery, if I recall.  St. Agnes has top notch doctors and staff - they would not have earned the "Center of Excellence" certification without meeting certain standards. The only thing I would recommend is that you find out what you need to do (read all the materials they provide) and then do it.  They provided me a book at a pre-surgery session and it was my bible.  I followed their program and I couldn't be more happier with the results.   I can't say enough good things about how this has changed my life (given me back my life).  I wish I had done this much sooner than I did.  Although saying that, I knew mentally I wasn't ready for it before I did it.  You didn't say what surgery you were contemplating.  I had LAP RNY.  Just do your research and do your homework and make the best decision for you.  I think you're smart to post questions here.  If you have any more, post away.  If you need you can email me to ask me anything.  I've been kinda MIA on the boards lately due to a hectic work schedule and life outside of work, but I will answer/get back to you.

Take Care,
Terry

Dr. Singh performed my gastric bypass surgery in March of 2004.  He is tops in the bariatric field and was named one of Baltimore top doctors by  Baltimore Magazine over a year ago. He has performed more bariatric surgeries than anyone in the state.   His surgical skills are top notched as well as his bedside manner.  His staff is extremely supportive during the whole process and long after.  They make themselves available to you at any time.  St. Agnes has a wonderful program with continuing monthly support meetings.  Having been through this experience with Dr. Singh, I would have easily driven hours to be seen by him.  So if you are lucky enough to be at the doorstep of St. Agnes, it would be an easy choice. Good luck to you.  Joann
