Prevacid

My 3 month post op appt. is coming up and I noticed that I will run out of Prevacid before the appt.  I called and asked for a refill and was told that they take you off of it at 3 months anyway. This is making me a bit nervous:  has anyone else needed to take it longer?

Hi Darla,   Do not go by anything anyone other than DVR tells you.   I was continued on the prevacid because I needed it beyond my 3 month visit.  I spoke to DVR and he gave me the RX.  Do not fret I have extra ones here to hold you over until you visit.   I only take it only once in a blue moon now and I feel great. I had major reflux that is completely gone now. Whenever someone gives you the run around ask for DVR to call you ASAP! Hugs, By the way thanks for the call I just heard your message and I just through reading your message. Thank you for checking up on me I am doing good just been really busy the kids.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

I agree with Cira.  In the past, I had trouble getting a straight answer from others in the office.  Each time, I just asked that Dr. Mo call me back.  Each question answered to my satisfaction.  Check with DVR.

I was put on Prevacid by Dr Roe two weeks after surgery. I was told I would be on it forever to prevent ulcers. I never had any problems before surgery to warrant taking it. Listen to what your doctor tells you. Wanda

I was taking Protonix because of issues with my stricture and surgical site ulcer.   Since my prescription provider seemed to know more about my need for the drug (they wouldn't fill for more than 3 months), my doctor told me that I could take Prilosec OTC and that should cover it.   Even tho the Prilosec is for a 2 week course of treatment, I take it daily now. Everyone's needs are different and you need to get your specific information from your doctor. Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Hi Darla, I'm with everyone else, we are all different. Medically, I've read the acid in the stomach can damage the new plumbing before its healed up. Some of us make more acid than others. I've got extra Prevacid too so if you get in a bind let me know. Something I started doing was drink a small glass of water when natures call wakes me up at night. Might dilute some of the acid that builds up. Mark

Congrats on your 3 months, and super congrats on your great weight loss. I too believe that God is good. But, I also believe more that when you are a good person, good things come back to you. You are a wonderful person, and because of that, wonderful things happen for you. How are things at the MAC? They need to put one in Towson or Parkville!
Hugs!

Doc Roe has us all on it forever as a preventative measure...I will tell you I have several WLS friends who stopped taking it an aftera few months begged for it back....I wont ever stop because I dont want ulcers or gerd or any stomach acid situations.  The way Roe explains it is that RNY is like a surgery given to lab rats to induce ulcers so they can test drugs for ulcers...I trusted him wiht my life & still do   But OFCOURSE check with your own Surgeon...PS I never had any issues prior to surgery either Diana RNY 9/17/03 DR Roe 360/196/forever aiming at 180
