Ellie - There's a lot of controversy surrounding the cottage cheese test.  I don't know how big my pouch is now, but I have to confess, I also can't remember how much "stretchage" is normal.  Some is obviously, but I get daily confirmation that everything's working like it should, provided I listen to my body and stop when I feel full. Don't put too much faith into the test, I don't think there's any scientific evidence to back it up.  And don't be hard on yourself!!!! Tia

Six years post op and still wearing 12's....that's the only test I really put any faith in.  And when the 12's are tight (like they are now) and I gotta consider buying 14's, that's my signal to get back on track and do what I know I gotta do to stay at my healthy weight.   As I said on the main forum:  even though I am able to eat more today than I could one month post-op, I am NOT able to eat as much as I could one month pre-op.  And when I gain a little, putting the other time tested tools to work (like not grazing, watching my intack of alcohol or other unhealthy foods, etc.) allows my pouch and reworked intestines to do the work they were designed to do.  They haven't failed me yet!   GOOD LUCK TO ALL MY LOCAL WLS comrades!

I have done the cottage cheese test a couple of times since my surgery, 3/15/06.  The last one said I could hold 8 oz, that was several months back.  However, I sometimes feel that I am getting quite a bit more than that in.  I do notice that the more dense the food, i.e. protein, the less I can consume.  I can eat quite a bit of veggies.  Thankfully I am limited on the carbs I can consume, only 1 slice of bread at a time and only a few crackers.  I have had about 1/2 cup of pasta but that makes me feel very uncomfortable.  I seem to remember that our pouches should be stretch to no more than 10-12 oz.  But I am not 100% on that.  Like the others, I base my success on the scale staying the same and the clothes fitting right.  I am holding steady at 152 (+/- 2 or 3 lbs depending on the day) and feeling great.  I have lost 120 lbs and think that is incredible.   I hope you are doing great too! Hugs, Robin

Thanks for the reply..... I know just what you mean. when I sit down for dinner, I can't eat that much. forget any pasta. I do that everytime I eat anything with pasta in it. when I did the cottage cheese test I ate 12 oz in 5 min. I think I could have eaten more. Now when I eat dinner I know that I am not getting 12 oz in. I can eat a whole bag of lettuce tho as long as it doesn't have any meat in it.I am 20 months post-op. I lost 80 pounds need to lose another 20. Having a hard time doing that. I started at 239 and am down to 169. Yes I gained 10 back and am going one pound + one pound - every day. I thought about doing atkins for a couple of weeks but can't eat all that meat. I anyone has any ideas on how to loose that 20 pounds let me know. I need some help....  hugs Ellie

Hi Ellie,  I don't know how this works since I haven't tried it myself but maybe this will help you with your last few pounds.  I saved this from a post a year ago (kinda cool it was EXACTLY one year ago today that I found this) thinking that someday I might need it.  Hang in there!  You can do it!!!  Don't discount the great success you have had thus far!  Hugs, Robin
