Update on Hubby

Just an update on hubby Mike (supa_ordie), He is 10 days post op and is having issues with getting in enough liquids. Dr. Greene has requested him to come into the office for a vitamin shot and to be put in the hospital for a few bags of IV to hopefully make him feel better. He seems to be dehydrated. He feels nauseated and light headed. Although he has been trying to sip, sip, sip. But he has loss his interest in the isopure, broth, and shakes.  He only likes ice cubes and the SF popsicles. He has lost 10 lbs pre op on the all liquids and has dropped 13 more since surgey. I am worried about him any ideas? I have also gained 63 lbs since my RNY in 2003. My doctor is in training for the new procedure stomphyx..sp? I hope to have that as my revision. I can still stand to lose 100 lbs.  Even though I was blessed to lose 200 lbs in my first year of the surgery, I just seemed to stop after that. My lowest weight was 245 and that was after having 15 lbs of skin removed. Anyone have any ideas on how to get back on track? I am doing a lot of solid proteins. I am able to do a good amout of suger without dumping and I do way too many carbs.  HELP!!

I'll say a prayer for your husband!  Dehydration is horrible - once he gets the IV fluids going he'll feel much better and be able to sip/sip/sip again!  I am sorry to hear you are having a re-gain after such a huge success!   But.... " I am able to do a good amout of suger without dumping and I do way too many carbs. " --- it sounds like you know where the problem is and what you need to do to get back on track!   It is so hard, but remember, when we make the choice to  have WLS surgery we committ to lifelong dietary changes for it to work!  With your hubby fresh out of surgery, it may be the perfect time for you to eat along with him ---- back to the basics from the post-op period --  protein first,  veggies healthy carbs as the pouch allows.   Then of course...there is exercise!  (this coming from a woman who is 6 months out, in a stall, and NOT exercising as much as she should....) :)  Best of luck to both of you!

Sorry Mike is feeling bad.  Here's to hoping the IV fluids do him wonders.  I'm sure they will.  Like suggested, concentrating on proper eating and exercising with him should really get you back on track.  The tool is still there.  This might be the kick start you need.  Keep us updated.   TraciL

I had many complications with my surgery and dehydration was one of them. He will be ok after he gets the I V. I truely understand his loss of interest  in eating and drinking but that too shall pass. I have also gained back weigh. I can eat anything and not dump. When you find a solution please pass it on. My prayers are With you both. See you lighter. Joanne

My prayers are with your Hubby (Mike).  Dr. Greene is also my doctor and I know he takes good care of his people.  God Bless and know everything will be ok.  Peace

Thank you all for your concerns and prayers. Mike is doing a lot better.  He even sounds better.  I will use his tool to begin my journey back as a loser!!  Back to protein, protein, protein. And DAMED the CARBS AND SUGARS......lolol
