Pain in abdomen-2 mos. post op

Hoping one of ya'll can give me some advice on this.   For the last 2 days I've had crampy, aching, sometimes sharp pain in my upper abdomen.  The area is above my belly button, mostly on my left side.  It is sore to the touch, like pulled muscles.  My tummy also feels and looks a little bloated.  I do still have my gall bladder, and I've been taking Actigall twice a day ever since my surgery.  My co-worker, who had RNY over a year ago said that I might just be constipated or unable to pass gas.  However, I've been pretty regular in that department.  I spoke to Pat Jordan, the NP at Dr. Schweitzer's office yesterday.  She suggested a laxative and if that didn't help (it didn't) that I may need to have a CAT scan.  I know that I should just go ahead with the CAT scan.  But, to be honest, I'm scared of what they may find.  Gall stones?  Hernia?  I sure don't want another surgery this soon!  Thanks, Elaine

Hi Elaine, I'm sorry to hear about the pain you are in. I have not had my surgery ye, my date is October 15. It's better to be safe than sorry. Follow Pat Jordans advice and go for the CT scan. It may not be anything. But if it is it is better to get it taken care of sooner than later so you can concentrate on your weight loss journey. Your lucky to have one of the best Bariatric Centers around. Please keep us informed. ~Peace~ Rebecca

Elaine...please follow the NP's advice. It is better to take care of it now than later. If it is nothing to be concerned about then you can relax. If it is something that needs taking care of, you can go forward and do whatever has to be done. I hope it is nothing to be concerned about.

Hi Lainey, Sorry to hear that you've been having some pain. But definitely get it checked asap; if it's nothing, you'll be able to stop worrying and hopefully get some relief. If it is a hernia, they may tell you to get it operated on a bit later. That happened to someone in one of the support groups. But maybe they can get you something to relieve the pain or pressure. Sometimes gas can cause alot of pain as well. Keep us posted on your progress! You wouldn't have to have a surgery this soon even if it is gallstones or a hernia. BUT GET IT CHECKED OUT SO YOU CAN RELAX!! ~~ Trish

Lainey, listen to Pat. Call and tell here and get the Cat Scan. It might be you are worrying for nothing. They are the best. You need to let them help you. Now pick up the phone or type Pat's email address in and get it scheduled. And then let us know what is going on. HUGs.

Thanks everyone for your guidance and encouragement.  I did take your advice and spent the majority of yesterday at Bayview.  They did 2 ultrasounds and a Cat Scan.  All negative...thank goodness!!  They did not find any gall stones (although they did see some "sludge" in my gall bladder) or intestinal obstructions.  What a relief!!!  Pat Jordan was awesome.  She was so attentive and accomodating, even though she already had a jam packed schedule.  I'm back to feeling almost normal today.  My tummy is still slightly sore if I push on it.  I'm guessing that all the prodding around on my belly yesterday may have gotten things moving and alleviated the pain.  We'll just chalk this up to either gas or a pulled muscle, and hope that it doesn't ever recur! Thank you again for your concern, support and advice.  You're the best!! ~Elaine

Glad you're doing better, Lainey, and that you had it addressed quickly.  With us post-ops, we never know what could happen, better not to play doctor yourself!! Tia
