just waiting for that day
Well, I had my class with Kathy and Sloan and got my binder. I also got my pre-ops done yesterday. I guess I really have nothing too pressing to do but wait. I think I just might get myself a manicure and a pedicure before my surgery. My mom informed me she wanted to be at the hospital the day of my surgery. I guess I can deal with that...lol I think she is very anxious, although supportive, about me getting this surgery.
Question.....why do they put you in a private room for this surgery?
Gail K
They give you a private room at Dvr's request: If they try and charge you for an extra bed
mention his name and they will not charge you. They will put a 2nd bed in the room if you
ask. Mom stayed with me and was a big help when I had to go to the bathroom and when I got
sick in the middle of the night.
I got a pedicure and manicure before surgury too: At least I had nice colorful toenails
showing when I wore my slippers for the first week or so.
Hi Gail,
I asked the same question and received several answers. The one that made the most sense was other patients in the room might be on a regular meal plan and present a temptation. The room has two beds, one is a bariatric bed that is awesome. It can morph into a chair. Another reason I heard is the extra bed can be used by a family member to stay with you. All the nurses were great. I wrote more in my blog if it interests you. The popsicles were cherished treats.
I think some pre surgery pampering is a great idea.
This is going to be Grrrrrrreat!

Hi Gail -
Memorize that binder, it became my Bible for the first six weeks!!! Just pamper yourself until then. And be kind to your Mom, I'm sure she is anxious - does she understand everything that's going to happen? If not, show her your binder - that'll help reassure her that you know what you're doing.
Trust me, you'll be glad you have a private room!! And yes, a family member can stay with you, but honestly, I didn't need anyone. My Mom stayed with me the first night, but slept so soundly I couldn't wake her to help me up!! She snored so much that the next day, I sent her home!!
My experience with the nurses was great, although I have heard some complaints about the night staff. But I didn't have any problems. Note - Once they get you up the first evening and they tell you you're able to move about on your own - do it as much as you can. It'll help. I was much more mobile than a lot of lap rny patients - at Target the day after my discharge, at the mall the day after and the movies the day after that - all with my little JP drain!!!
Good luck!!
Tia
Wow .. only two weeks away. That time is just going to fly by.

Comparison is the thief of joy!
If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished. Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago. I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits! Wherever you are in your journey ... It's ALL good!!!
