Hey Kristen,

I use EAS Advantage 100% Whey protein.  I've used both the vanilla and the chocolate, but have been sticking with the vanilla for the last year or so.   I mix a heaping scoop of protein with heaping tablespoon of instant decaf coffee, some non-dairy powdered creamer, a scoop's worth of DaVinci SF syrup (I prefer the hazelnut or kahlua flavors), and 3 to 4 packets of equal .. oh and I forgot .. 2 cups of ice water and about 1 1/2 cups of crushed ice (or cubes).   I don't even use the blender.   I just put it in a container with a screw cap (use the zip lock containers) and shake it.   I let it sit while I drive to work and then give it another shake .. and it's ready to drink.

I think it's every bit as good as an iced coffee drink from SB or DD or Wawa.   My doctor told me right off that protein drinks were going to be in my long term (read that forever) future.  The trick is to find things to mix with your protein to make it taste good to you.

I've also mixed the vanilla (and chocolate) with Fruit20 flavored waters.   The rasberry with chocolate is good . and orange with vanilla is like a creamsicle.

Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Hey Kristen - Sorry you're going through all of this - just hang in there.  As far as the "tasteless" protein, yep, you're right.  Once I was cleared for protein shakes, I bought a bunch of samples - all of which made me want to gag from the smell, the grit, the texture, etc.  Finally, I latched onto ready to drink EAS Advant Edge - 110 calories, 17 g. of protein, low carb.  The chocolate tastes kind of like a Yoo-Hoo, in a weird, bariatric way, and to this day, when I need an extra boost of protein, I use the French Vanilla as creamer in my coffee or tea.  They're really not bad, and trust me, I went through a lot of them!!  Walmart has them 4 in a pack for $4.97.  Also, once you can do protein bars, Pure Protein is my fave - with Chewy Chocolate Chip ranking at the top.  Again, you can get them at Walmart.   My sense of taste and smell changed drastically after surgery.  I thought it would revert, but at 25 mos. post-op, it hasn't, so I think I'm stuck with it.  Basically, once I'm full, I can't stand the look or smell of food - so it's a good thing.  While I always had issues with texture - it seems to have gotten worse, but I've kind of learned what to stay away from, so I usually don't have any problems. As far as your hubby snoring, sounds like HE needs a sleep study.  My brother used to snore like a freight train - seriously, when we all stayed in an OC condo, his snores reverberated throughout!!  I finally talked him into getting a sleep study, because I knew he had severe sleep apnea, and was afraid he was going to die.  Now, Mr. Cpap is his friend - he gets good quality sleep and little, if any snoring.  I don't know how his girlfriend feels about sleeping with someone who looks and sounds like Darth Vader, though. Hang in there, honey, it'll all work out. Tia

Tia  Thank you, I plan to try and hit Walmart and Target later this week and will get those items.  The samething has happened to me, smells (even air freshners and perfume), Taste and texture, BLAH!  The foam of the shake makes me want to gag like a big dog!

It does seem like the powders that are labeled "tasteless" or "unflavored" are the worst of all!  For me, Unjury has been the best.  They're not chalky and they don't have that proteiny aftertaste.  In addition to the usual vanilla, chocolate, strawberry flavors, they also have a Chicken Soup flavor that's a nice change from all the sweet drinks.  You can order sample sizes to try them out.  It's only available online http://www.unjury.com/, but their shipping and service is really great. I also like the Syntax's Nectar Roadside Lemonade powder, which you can get at the Vitamin Shop and GNC.  It's a lighter fruit juice type drink, instead of a creamy shake drink. I totally agree with Tia...sounds like your hubby (and mine) could use their own sleep study!  Hope you get some rest soon! Best, Elaine (Lainey)

Ear plugs!  It'll cut the noise enough for you to relax and fall asleep, but you'll still be able to hear the alarm clock.

Kristen I sympathize with you. I have developed insomnia since the surgery and EVERYTHING bothers me at night to conspire to keep me awake. I am going to talk about it with my surgeon when I have my follow up. The 2 proteins that work the best for me are the achive coffee flavored ones and the unjury chicken soup. At a it over a month I do pretty good with getting most of my protien from food with these 2 and my protein cereal to back me up. If I did need an unflavored one, I would get unjury too.  Good luck in getting some shut eye. Hugs. Jo

Jo  I hear ya, I am dead tired.  I am planning to take my ambein tonight and see if that will help me.  I had to get stiches in the one lap area and I can not find a happy place when I try to lay down.  I did get a small nap today but man!   I would talk to your doctor, I plan too on Wednesday. Kristen - glad to see you home and grousing!  I came home late yesterday.  So far, so good.  At times its so far, so so! I found a great tasteless supplement at the hospital.  I was the nutritionist's guiena pig.  Its a liquid by ProSource called "no carb" - A Collagen & Casein Formulated High Proten Supplement.  15 grams of protein.  Mix one pack with a 20 oz water and any flavor Crystal Light and its pretty good.  I just hope it still tastes good as I move along.  This is note available in stores, but you can find more info online at http://www.medtritioninc.com/. I will research this more and let you know what I find.  So far it is only supplied to hospitals. Take care. Lots of hugs to you - April
