? about post-op
1st - what were some of the proteins that you used the first week pre-op with your clear liquid diet?
2nd - what are some of the liquid meds and vitamins that you bought and where did you get them?
3rd - in my binder it has a sample of the clear liquid plan and chicken broth is on there. did anyone eat that and doesn't it contain too much salt?
thanks in advance....I am sure I will have many more questions.

Hi Gail -
Wow!! Right around the corner, isn't it??
During the clear liquid phase, the only protein I had was from the clear Isopure drinks, which I bought at GNC. Several pages back, I thought you had posted some similar questions, and Markwrench did, too, I believe. I think I responded with a pretty lengthy email, but I'll give you what I can remember now:
The clear Isopure - some people love it, some people hate it - I loved for the sheer volume of protein it has. Just make sure you read the label or ask the GNC people - you want the low or zero carbs and high protein; they have different formulas. I think my fave was the blue raspberry, and the fruit punch, but they have lots of different flavors. I just carried a bottle around with me all the time and sipped.
DVR will give you a prescription for the liquid Percoset - the hospital pharmacy carries it, and if I'm not mistaken, they carry the clear Isopure, too. In fact, a helpful hint is that the pharmacy in the hospital will deliver to your room. Once you have your prescriptions in hand, ask the nurse to call it in to the pharmacy. It's a great convenience. As far as liquid vitamins - good luck with this! Centrum makes a liquid that was so heinous smelling I had to turn my head when I opened the bottle. I know it doesn't sound encouraging, but the liquid phase will pass soon enough. There's also a liquid Tylenol. I've tried a variety of different liquid vitamins, all of which, in my opinion, tasted nasty, and had an equally nasty smell. Once I could chew, I bought Bariatric Advantage vitamins, iron, and other supplements - my local Epic pharmacy carried them. Now mind you, I'm a little weird, but a lot of rny patients report their sense of taste/smell changing. Mine did, and I couldn't stand the grit in my mouth, made me want to puke! Just like at all this as a means to an end, and soon enough, you'll be able to swallow vitamins and you won't remember the other stuff!
They do make a low-sodium chicken broth, but for the amount that you're going to be able to consume, I doubt, unless you have severe issues with sodium, that it's going to make a big difference. There's also beef broth and veggie broth, too. Or, you might want to make your own, and feed your family the chicken after you drain the broth for you, or freeze it for when you can eat it.
Hope this helps! Any other questions, fire away!

Dusting off the bench next to me::::::::::::: OK here goes the Centrum Liquid vitamin I could now
swallow: I got some of the Flintstone sugar free chewables and have taken them everyday twice a day. Most drug and grocery stores sell these.
As far as protein I drink the new whey protein bullets : They have a 25gram and a 42 gram.
my favorite is the grape. The vitamin shoppe sells these and I think GNC carries them as well.
Hi Gail,
I don't have much to offer here because my doctor had me on a 'different' protocol .. I never did 'clear' liquids .. just liquids . then mush .. then slowly added things back from a list .. over a period of about 6 weeks.
He also started me on Flintstone vits in the hospital and to this day (almost 3 1/2 years later) I STILL use the Flintstones.
Your best source of information is your doctor's office because each doctor has a different idea what his patients should be doing. You are fortunate that you have a dr that has other patients that post on here!

Comparison is the thief of joy!
If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished. Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago. I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits! Wherever you are in your journey ... It's ALL good!!!
Hi Gail,
Just in a few weeks it will be your turn too! Yay!
Ok so at first at the clear liquid stage after the surgery I did the Isopure and Bullet why protein Man I hated that I had to water it down and put crush ice to be able to drink it. I bought it at the vitamin shoppe
I took lquid tylenol and liquid Centrum for adults after a week and a half after surgery I started taking liquid calcium. Tropical Oasis you can search it on line. I'll look for the link and email it to you.
I did do everything that was in that binder and yes I used the knorr chicken broth bullions and it was fine for me I was never told to not use the regular bullion.
