A Race With Emotion...

Good morning all, I ran in the Race To Remember 5k this morning.    Boy...what an emotional race.   The theme is all about remembering those lost on 9/11.   Especially those that lost their lives while trying to help others. Lots of fire, police and rescue personnel.   I met two people that had lost loved ones.  One in Shanksville, PA and one in the Pentagon.    Right past the start of the race, there were two fire trucks with their ladders extended above the road.   Stretched between them was a large American Flag.   We ran under it as the race started. I have run in two other races since my surgery.   While the other two were for good causes, this one really touched me.    It was a great experience and I encourage anyone able to take part next year. In the end, I ran a 27:35 - almost 2 minutes faster than my last race.   Sub 9 minute miles.    Hope everyone's day started with as much emotion as mine did.   It sure puts things into perspective.

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa , a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Dave - that is a fantastic way to start the day and a wonderful tribute to those lost and their surviving loved ones.

Your progress is an inspiration to us all.  I hope we never forget Sept 11 and I pray it never happens again.

Well, you deserve kudos for improving your time, and big hugs for helping us to remember this event, and helping raise money for this most worthy cause. Next year, I hope to be about 10 months out at this time. Perhaps in shape for a brisk 5K walk.
Hugs!
Kathy
