I am trying to plan ahead and am wondering if you could tell me how much protein you are getting in during an average day and how (what food source, supplement, etc) you are you doing it.  Also, if you could tell me how far post-op you are.  Thanks in advance!! Kendra

I get about 100 oz in a day but I am almost 2 years out. In the beginning I lived on protein shakes and seafood. Now I can eat whatever I want but I primarily eat, fish either talapia or salmon, baked chicken, and every now and again I will eat a burger. I try to stay away from red meat though. I have recently gone back over the past two weeks to drinkibng protein shakes. I also eat protein bars that I get from sams which are 31 grams of protein each.  I see we have the same surgeon do you have a date yet?

Thanks for the feedback - I just figured out how to post the surgeon, etc in my profile section!  Now if I could only figure out how to post a pictue!! Yes, I have Dr. Gandsas but I do not have a date yet.  My insurance company approved me on Friday but the doctor's office has not yet received the letter  and so they are unable to set my date until they have it in their hand!  I am hoping for early October so that I will be far enough post-op to enjoy Disney World in December! Hi Kendra, I am 6 months out and I get all my required protein by eating chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, cheese, protein bars and protein shakes.  I might not drink a protein shake everyday but when I see that I am not near my requirement I make a shake wiht 1% milk and so frozen fruit.   I buy body fortress at walmart it is $13.00 for a 2 pound jar. I prefer the vanilla flavor after having the bypass.  I used to like the chocolate preop but not anymore.  I also have used Pro Performance by GNC 50 Grand slam it is 50 grams of protein in one premixed shake.   I would drink 1/2 in the morning or afternoon and the other half in the evening or at night.  That really helped me alot when I wa so early out from surgery since I really con not eat much. I usually have between 70 grams to 100 grams of protein a day. Wishing you all the best in your journey.

I am who I am and accept my feelings wholeheartedly.

Hi. I am a little over 3 weeks post op. I posted on my profile some ideas to get protein in with pureed foods for just after surgery. I try to get at least 80 grams and aim for 100 each day. I do this with food and some supplements like achieve coffee and unjury chicken soup. I also found on line a cereal that is 26 grams of protein and only 3 carbs that tastes awsome.

I think you will love Dr Gandsas. He was one of my front runners. I chose Dr Schweitzer at Bayview because I had the most confidence in him and his numbers. Order yourself some Unjury Chicken Soup, it is by far the best tasting protein supplement out there. I am 5 months post-op and I still struggle a bit with getting all of my daily protein in. I mostly try to get it in with the Unjury chicken soup, salmon, chicken, seafood and a small amount of red meat. I use cottage chesse and yogurt as fillers throughout the day. Good luck on your weightloss journey. Carol

I'm seven weeks out (today) and finding it a challenge to get my protein.  I come very close each day but never quite make it.  I drink one shake a day and try to get the rest from food and drinking milk.  The problem is that I'm still not eating enough food to get the protein I need.  For example, when I make my scrambled egg (I also add cheese) each morning, I'm still only eating about half of it.  I know my pouch will eventually stretch and allow me to eat more but, until it does, I  need to start drinking two shakes a day. When you come out of surgery (and probably for the rest of your life), I believe shakes or clear liquid protein drinks (e.g., Isopure) are going to be your best friends. Good luck!! --Eric
