Post-op vacation question

Our family is planning (and already payed for) a 2 week trip to Disney World for the beginning of December.  I am pre-op now but hope to be 6-8 weeks post-op by that point.  We are staying in a pretty large condo (no small motel room stress) and will have a full kitchen so that we do not have to eat out much.  My in-laws are also going so I will have extra help with the kids.  I do not want to post-pone the surgery and I cannot change the vacation dates.  So...do you think it's possible?  I'd appreciate any insight! Thanks,  Kendra P.S.  I STILL can't get my picture to show up!

Planning that is the key.  Plan what you can and eat with care.  My poor sister was two weeks out and my mother died suddenly.  She lived out of state, we had to pack Jennifer up in 45 or less to get out of town.  Take goodness she had some meals already in the fridge and in the freezer. GO HAVE FUN!  remember DRINK DRINK DRINK Hugs Kristen

Every morning before I go to work, I pack my coller with enough liquids for the # of hours I will be gone and my lunch.  I t is much harder and time consuming than winging it and or eating out!  Also,I have to get up earlier to allow time for packing and to slowly eat my breakfast.  It has really helped me stay with the plan.  Today I had my 3oz. can of tuna while my co-workers ordered subs. At 3 weeks out I am now brave enough to sit with them.  The amazing thing to me is they eat the whole sub in the amt.of time I eat my tunaor faster!  So, the key is to make a menu and stick to it.  Disney has MANY choices for restr.s  Just have water for walking arouns and I would recommend taking as much food as you can with you.

I have found that I rarely even want any of those foods from a fast food type place when I am around them. Keep your protein items around- shakes, bars etc...

Hello,

We just got back from Disney World. Granted, I'm a yr and a few months out, but I think it is doable. It's great you have some extra hands to help with the kids! What exactly are you worried about?  Disney is very helpful with dietary restrictions. We have a son with food allergies and so had to have some special meal accommodations and Disney was great. Of course you won't get even close to eating all they dish up... the servings are huge!!! Maybe you could just share with one of the people in your party when you eat out. If you are still on soft foods, then they will make suggestions for you or puree food for you, whatever you need. I wouldn't even think you have to make a big deal out of it being WLS, you could just say you recently had abdominal surgery and are still in recovery. Just ask for what you need and have a great time. Freeze bottles of water and slowly drink them all day. Pack your meds in your carry ons. Bring your protein supplements just in case. If you're flying, get one of the flight sickness bags and keep it with you on the rest of your trip in case something doesn't agree with you and you get sick.  These are just some ideas... if you have some specific worries maybe I can offer up some things to ease your mind so that you can enjoy your trip more with less worry. Good Luck and "Have a magical day!!" ;-)
