Finally had the nerve to talk to PCP

So I have been really nervous about talking with PCP again. I wanted to come off and just say look this is what I want to do and you just need to help me or I will move on. But alas no need it went great!  I told him that I had no desire to see the endocrinologist and had lived like this long enough. I told him that I had done some research and went to the information seminar and had decided that this was what was right for ME. He basically said so you are serious. I said yes and he said then he knew that I would be a great candidate for this.  He said he wanted to make sure I understood all that was involved and that this was not a quick fix or the end to the problem but the beginning of a whole new way of living. He said that if I was commited to it then he would do everything to help me. YEAH! So one more thing out of the way.

I have been a little worried about my visit to my PCP as well. The last time I went there he told me to go to Weigh****chers. I am glad to hear he was so supportive! Hope mine is as well. Amy

It's so great that your PCP is on board! Mine is one of those who always tells me to join Weigh****chers (because I've never tried that before!!! ) or, very bluntly tells me "eat less, exercise more"...ahhhh if I'd know it was that easy (NOT!) so she isn't supportive at all.   I'm looking at switching to a PCP (and have some great recommendations from people in this forum) who is more sensitive to the fact that being 120 lbs over weight isn't just a little problem with an extra twinkie here and there that I can easily fix by "just stopping my bad habits". Congrats on a successful visit!!

Hang in there and find a supportive PCP. Nothing beats that kind of support because in the end you will return to their care and it is important to find one on the same wave length. Good for you to keep searching. Hugs. Jo

FWIW, this is how my PCP first reacted -- and she shares office space with an RNY surgeon!!  After I did my homework and decided to be banded, she became very supportive.  I think they just want to make sure you're serious and have exhausted the other options.
