Friends and family
It came up in converstaion if any support groups existed for those who accompany us through wls. I didn't see anything here, although GBMC has a list of groups with a wide range of subject nmatter. Would like to hear thoughts from others. Is there enough need to form such a group?
Mark, who found very low carb Hawaiian Punch at Giant yesterday. 2 grams to an 8 oz serving.
Hi Mark -
Well, I do know that on OH, there is a Friends & Family board; I always envisioned it as a place for our supporters, but I know that some have been using it as a message board to their wls friends. Other than that, I'm not aware of anything, but I do know that at our get-togethers, someone usually brings their spouse, significant other, parent, etc.
Obviously, family support is critical, particularly initially post-op. If your spouse/so has any concerns, please feel free to have her join us on here. Maybe we can help her, too!
Tia, who is happy to tell Mark that Hawaiian Punch also make s/f singles, just like Crystal Light, in Fruit Juicy Red. I know Target has them, and so does Walmart, sometimes.
9/13 is fast approaching!
Yes.
Your friends and family play such a large role in this process it amazes me how often they are left out.
They really should have their own support group. Not only while we are going through the pre-op phase, but post surgery as well. My wife still has plenty of questions.
Just my 2 cents.
Also...nice meeting you, finally, at the fair!
Dave
Every morning in
i think that my spouse and loved ones could use it but I know that at St. Agnes (even though I didn't have my surgery there) has a support group not only for patients but their friends/family are welcomed as well.
I haven't heard of anywhere that has one just for support persons but it is a great idea.
I wouldn't know a low-carb hawaiian punch from a regular one. I haven't had any juices like that since I was rather young and then I become diabetic. I didn't even look for any juices like that.
It is my understanding that friends and families are always welcome at any and all of the on-going support groups. It may be a good idea to create an off shoot of one going on at the same time.
Keep up the good work!
Aime
The love of my OH Family has me humbled!!!!
We do welcome friends and family at the St Agnes group- I really feel that your friends and family can "make or break" a post op. I remember when I had my surgery 8 yrs ago, my Mom bought candy for me for Christmas just 4 weeks post op! She really didn't understand the mind set. I've had patients bring their spouses who weren't necessarily supportive, but after coming to several meetings, realized the extent that they could help, and that negative words have no place post op.
Our meetings are the first and third Wednesday of each month.
First Wednesday 6pm=650pm- "Post Op's Only"
7pm- General Meeting
Third Wednesday 6pm-650pm- LapBand Support
7om- General Meeting.
