Do not read this if you are not able to eat!  I do not want to be in charge of anyone getting sick or hurting your new pouch.  I say this with love but want to talk about this.  I am not on a pre-op diet and lord I can tell.  I just ate a whole sub and feel like I need to barf.  I come from a big Italian family and food it our business.  Work is planning a dinner of all you can eat seafood need week and I am planning to have dinner with family next week.  Now here is my questions.  Tell the truth, cause I do want to go to the cheesecake Factory and eat my face off and some other places as well before I do this.  DID YOU?  DID YOU HAVE A LAST DINNER OR LAST SOMETHING or am I nuts and just want to eat.   I can really do with out all of it and some how have lost 6lbs in 3 weeks.  I guess now getting down to things, I thinking of foods I will not have for a good couple years.  I love HOT spicy food and that is about the worst thing for me to give up.  I can go with out the bread and sugar, but I like my hot stuff. Just food for thought, tell me what you think. Hugs Kristen

Hey Kristen, If it's any help .. post op I couldn't get enough spicy food!!!   The spicier the better or I didn't 'taste' it.   I've heard that from other folks too that they really craved and ate spicy foods. I didn't really do the last meal thing but I do understand the feeling of need. Hugs, Mo

Comparison is the thief of joy!

If we spend our time comparing our life/weight loss/body to others, we totally miss what WE have accomplished.   Keep in mind how far you have come and what you can do now that you couldn't do weeks/months/years ago.   I hate the expression " It's all good", but in this case it fits!   Wherever you are in your journey  ... It's ALL good!!!

Kristen, I too want to have a last dinner with family, with friends, with whoever!  I continuously think about what I should eat now, because I will never be able to eat it again.  I don't think we're nuts or crazy - I think we're normal (well maybe a little nutty - it seems to help). So, I would enjoy.  I'm going out to dinner next week with a couple of friends from work.  We are going to Outback - they can't believe I've never been.  I plan to enjoy the meal.  Not make myself sick, just enjoy. Do what you feel is right for you. Good luck on the 10th.  I'll be thinking about you.  Take care,

I know what you mean. I had surgery on a Tuesday. On Sat I said good bye to my fovorite-Chinese food and on Sunday we had dinner at the dinner so I could have a carb fest and on Monday I had a mixture of things. BUT I ate very small amounts of eveything because I did not want to be sick or clog myself up. So have your last suppers just moderate them.

Kristen,

I think what you are going through is perfectly normal.   Food has been a huge focus in our lives--for better or for worse, and that relationship is about to change.  Just as you would want to see a good friend if you knew you wouldn't see them again for a very long time, you want to have an opportunity to say goodbye to the foods that you love as well.  Like Jo said, enjoy it, but do it in moderation.  Good luck to you! My 50th birthday was 2 days before my surgery. I had my cake and I ate it too!

I did not have a last supper.  I was on a high protein/low carb diet prior to the surgery and about the time I thought of having a last supper it was too late.  I wish I could have.

Hi Kristen

You bring up a valid concern, and you aren't nuts. My birthday is less than a week before the surgery. I'm sure we'll do something revolving around food, but I'm not going to stress over it. The strangest thing seems to be happening since I started the protein shakes as a meal replacement for breakfast. My appetite has dropped. I do eat a big dinner, but its mostly to prevent before bed refrigerator raids which were once common. This isn't to say I'm not struggling. There is a huge "me against the buffet" attitude when I eat. I don't get the "stop, you're full" signal from my stomach until I've overeaten. In fact, I put on a few pounds after dropping about 20 using the food plan from the nut. That signal to stop is so important. I'm depending on the surgery to help enforce this. Difficult for me to imagine not wanting to eat. I'm just not thinking I'll have a last dinner and gorge.  Mark, who now lurks in the liquid meal replacement aisle

Hi Kristen I think everyone wants to have there "Last Supper". It is normal to have that feeling. In my research before my surgery I heard alot of things and this stuck with me Dont have your "Last Supper" because some of the things you eat now, eventually you will be able to eat again just in moderation. Some things not all. You can still enjoy your family dinners, just not like you used to, you will have better judgement on what and how much you put on your plate Hope it helps Good Luck Kelly
